This has most likely been discussed before but....
Does anyone have a dishwasher in their workshop for cleaning parts.
Do the parts especially aluminium discolour after using the dishwasher.
If they do is it the detergent used, or is it the heat of the water.
If it is the heat, and it can be turned down will this make it much less affective as a cleaner.
Do you add degreaser to the machine like in a parts washer or spray them, let them soak and use the washer to do the final cleanup.
I have been offered a dishwasher but have to weigh up if the value of it overrides the hassle of finding a spot for it and plumbing it in.

dont bother. my dishwasher cant even get the shit off the plates and classes half the time..........
Deal direct etc do thos little tanks for like $49 with the pump etc in them, fully transpotable and sit on a desk. I take mine inside and sit by the couch, there the go fit big stuff to, perfect for engine rinses before rebuids.

i know someone who came home drunk ,and used petrol in there washing machine to wash there greasy overalls .blew the back half off the house up nearly killed his family , :o

Today I have done 5.6 k's in kayak.
Done the washing and pegged it.
Done the dishes by hand.
20 K's on a pushy
and thats just for starters.
So what is it you have done for the girls team today A? ;D

Our dishwasher near destroys our stuff. I have a 30 year old vegie juicer that was badly stained and yellowed. Two washes and it looks like new. Strips the coatings of wooden frypan handles. But it could also be the detergent we use, I reckon it might be a bit caustic.

Anyway back to dishwashers.......

I don't use a dishwasher (my garage is full). I have heard of others who use them. Any blacken is the alkaline of the dishwashing powder. Either don't use it, use detergent, or thoroughly rinse and dry.
I think it is mainly the heat of the water and the spay action that does the work. The alkaline powder helps break down the oils etc. Soak in de-greaser before washing and the action will break away the grime and the detergent holds it in suspension (in the water).
I have a old dishwasher if someone wants a garage dishwasher (save undue trouble with the trouble and strife - ya gotta treasure and protect ya 'good behaviour credits for CD8 et al ;D).
