Title: MY 2 vavle Jawa coming along
Post by: Freakshow on April 15, 2011, 01:08:54 pm
IF anyone is interested, this is not a restoration but more of a Race bike rebuild, i need it to be racable but by the same token i wanted it to look smart and good enought to be proud of, not some peice of rusting shit.

Bought it as a bit of a wreck 6 months ago and so far have pulled it down and repaired or replaced,  painted frame, fixed the wheels etc. etc  you get the drift.

IF your interested here are the pics so far.

Whats left  ?  - I just have to fix the guards and paint them now and im waiting on new tank rubbers and primary chain, should all be good to go ready for the winter season starting in 2 weeks.  ( then its on to gettign the YZ sorted out)

Bead blasted the frame, Sprayed it in Zinc and then went with a silver powdercoating, then just had to reassemble and rebush it all

Well done Freaky, you'll have some fun on that.
Don't forget, out of the start and turn left.
Any idea what the screws in the rocker cover were for?

Approx 2 litres Alison and they are a total loss system, you should top it up after each race.
Which raises the question, do you have to fit a catch tank mr Freaky?

no IDEA ON THE SCREW ILL HAVE TO TAKE A LOOK.
will fire it up as soon as i get them tank rubbers.
Total loss.  but on the hunt for a ctach can, cant for the life of me figure out how it catch can up hill though without blocking up the lower motor exit.

Fiberglassed the guards today so will paint and fit this week.  Small issue on the exhaust clamps, bit will sit and think about that too this week.

Is that a JAWA frame, because it looks different

Supposed to be. its like a 1970 stamp omn the motor numbers so cant see any reason the frame isnt from the same period.
Chis manchester saw the bike in transit in the US and remarked as he recognised its stickers etc and paterina, he thought he had owed/ridden on that bike when he was learning, so its probally been around a few times.

After having a closer look I think Dutch may well be right Freaky.
I don't think it's a genuine Jawa frame, the oil cap used to be the same size and style as the lumpy fuel cap on your steel tank, the one on that one looks a smaller diameter.
None of this detracts from what you've got because there was a shipload of copies floating around back then.

Cap is thin the thread is about the same width as the cap, over an inch wide, Frame is chrome moly as i sussed it out when i had it stripped down, light as too. read diamond feels heavier but that might be the rear axle slides that are heavy steel.

Just painted the guards tonight ( not great but can be redone later if needed, just trying to get my head around the lighter blue) just wating on a new front sprocket, tank rubbers and a primary cover - need to have it on before Sun for its maiden voyage at the Winter Prac day opener

Fitted the guards last night, but in not sure on the Powder blue yet, look alright on the can but now im in too minds, did the matching stipe in the tank too.  i'll SEE IF the light blue  GROWS ON ME ( might even do a white or yellow stipe up the guts.

FIRST RIDE ON sUNDAY IF the primary cover comes in the mail today, might go anyway and see if anyone picks up its missin ........

Seat looks a bit crappy now the rest been tidied up or replaced....

Still sure the front forks are bend, thought i had straightened them but there twisted up in the top somewhere, so i'll probally need to get some more S/h ones sorted out.

Looking good Freaky, I'm Jealous, mine's in 100 pieces.
Don't swet too much about the seat, all the original Jawa banana's split in the same spot, at least you've got one good side to photograph from.
I noticed a few lounges in the workshop, how do you get any work done?

That is my lounge room ......   i can sit back and ponder between doing somthing and tv.   Probally why i still havent finished my house, but the missus thinks its a ploy so i can work in the back room ( no carpet ) if i finish the room off, im out of bikes....

Hey Freaky, you may have already checked it out but the Speedway GP website has a video with hints into the subtle changes that are made to make a Speedway bike do what you want it to.
Very interesting.
