I put something up in the Suzuki section but wanted to throw this a bit wider.......
I have been advised that I can use a Wossner or Wiseco piston for a Maico 490 in my Suzuki RM 465 Z
They have one with an 87mm bore and I am currently on 86.5mm (86 Std + .50 OS). I can only assume the Maico had the same stroke (80mm)
I am a bit of a first timer so.....
Has anyone had any experience with using pistons made for other bike brands?
Any pitfalls?

Further to my previous post I just looked up the Bore and stroke on the 1981 Maico GSF 490 and it is 86 x 83mm
Again it might be a dumb question but the RM 465 is 86 x 80mm, I would imagine the 3mm extra stroke will be problematic if I was to use an 87 x 83mm OS Maico piston in the RM
Is there another 490 maico with a 80mm stroke or is the advice received no good as I don't want to spend $238 on something that is not appropriate

Geez what are you thinking, fire , flood and locust plagues will surely follow ;D
Check the rod length and compression heights of the respective pistons should give you an idea if the swap is fesable

i take it the boys from circo serco did all the usual checks ie gudgen to crown height and gudgen to skirt and the ring location pins are in the same spot and or a mirror image? if yes idoes not matter what the strokes where or are as long as the port timeing remains the same and piston crown is the same ;) see if you can beg borrow or steal an old maico piston for a total comparrison, piston porting, rings, crown, skirt.right color
Go to the WOSSNER site i posted and see the rm stuff, then can give part number to da boys

Ok, can someone post up on this thread the dimensions of a Maico 490 piston (87mm bore)
Top of crown to top of piston pin hole (excuse my ignorance!)
Gudgeon / piston pin diameter
bottom of piston pin hole to bottom of skirt
anything else I am missing?
I appreciate any assistance that can be provided

Yep correct .... I know it's Sacrilege and I will burn in hell!!
3rd OS piston kits for RM465's are like rocking horse poop and I was told that this would work and wanted to do some homework before investing my hard earned.
Looks like I can source another cylinder which I will do anyway but any assistance from those more experienced would be great as I am not sure if this type of transplanting in quackery or common practice.

Quite common but still comes down to comp height, stroke and rod length.
