I have stripped my 1983 RM500 and during my reassembly I have these two washers one with a metal insert, that I am lost as to their positioning on the bike. Can anyone advise of where they need to be installed?

they look like linkage dust covers or the spaciers for the wing arm where the engine mounting point. ???

The old rule is "if they are left over after a rebuild they were not needed to begin with" ;D

Hi Mate, they are the rear wheel spacers, the larger one with the metal insert goes on the left hand side of the wheel-between the wheel bearing and the inside of the swingarm as you look at it from the back of the bike and the other one goes on the right hand side, on the outside of the backing plate.
Cheers

Remove the shock and feel how it works.
