Title: B44 carb - timing problem?
Post by: bazza on April 09, 2011, 04:45:52 pm
My B44 with mikuni carb runs like a button for 2 years. I then put on a "electrix" Ignition system, set timing fires up idles well but now if you wack throttle on hard it coughs/stalls up- back off throttle and it idles again.Roll on throttle and it revs out.
Is it worth taking out to try or is carb off?

what did the Electrix kit contain. sounds weird if you made no changes to the carb and it is not full of old fuel or crap then it has to be the ignition. Is the coil an old one.

Fresh fuel 100 octaine as usual, coil comes with unit and pickett timed it for me
Mate has gizmo that is like HT lead with glass that shows spark,he thinks it might be blown out by weak coil (coil is new) comes with unit.
checked fuel bowl and jets not gummed up.
Its back in the shed and take the car out sunday, bugger

usually these things use BSA mechanical advance ..... could be something there, but more likely coil breaking down, are you using 6V and have something like voltage regulator in there some place in the  system, also be careful it is not negative earth. I used Pazon, worked well.

I've had drama's with my two stroke Electrex full system. Had it graphed by Bert in Geelng and turns out its advance curve is way off for my Bultaco 370.

I was wondering if it is combination if mechanical and electronic advance... a little out there but that would screw up the timing ..... I have kit as well that came off Enfield but have not fitted it yet but at $70 it was priced right..
