Huge compression and scary performance that is, quite frankly, too much for medium framed 40+ me!! :)

That is one nice looking bike.  Maybe it's just the shiny pipe that attracts me  ::) ;D

very rare bike, don't reckon many were sold as the CR500 & KX500 were miles ahead of the aging YZ490 by then.

The YZ250U was miles ahead of the 490 by then. 250U gave you the first twin discs and flat tank and seat, 350 bought the game forward, 490U was the S/T with bold new graphics.

As former 490S and Wr500 owner, CR500 has lots of power. The old air hammer 490 could be made to go but the power characteristics were the issue. Racing both KX500, CR500 the difference was a revelation.
