Title: Hodaka 250
Post by: mx250 on April 01, 2011, 10:31:58 pm
Whatcha know about them. Or more to the point do you know of any in Oz?

Some time ago, probably close to 30 years ::), I was at the Alpine Rally and I came across this strange Orange Trailie. Took a sqizz and it turned out to be a Hoey 250. I never knew such thing existed. Chatted to the owner and he informed me he had TWO of them!!! Does anyone know are they still 'out there', loved and treasured?

This pixie is off the net. My memory has them with more orange, in fact I thought they were predominately orange including the engine. But then my memory is not what it should be I guess.  ::)

Looks like they tried to develop a trials bike as well. Looks the business 8).

The trials bike is a Hodaka motor in a Kawasaki KT 250 frame. It's not a proddie Hodaka. It's popped up on TC recently but I can't remember who built it. Jay Lael (being a Hodie expert) probably knows.

From memory that trials bike was built in the states a few years ago, it's a special built using mainly kt250 running gear including the frame
I'm sure I've seen a link somewhere on here to the build article

The cunning use of colour camouflages the shape of the tank and side covers, and the use of aluminum guards really changes the character. Very cunning.

The Hoey motor appears a lot taller than the KT and forces a torturous exhaust pipe routing  ::).  Nice work though - one hell of an elaborate April fools prank though 8).

That Hodaka trials bike was build by a well known "FrankenHodie" builder. He also build this little Ace pitbike now owned by Jonesy.

How about a Hodaka 250 powered Maico to get the engine swap juices flowing? It certainly doesn't improve on a stock Maico but it sure as shit makes for a better Hodaka. Pity about the fugly Kato front 'guard and atrocious pipe.

I have the Thunderdog. I love the bike but it's very heavy. There were only 1800 made and about 50 or so made it into Australia. (http://i215.photobucket.com/albums/cc169/dkupf/DSC_0007.jpg)
