Title: SPEEDWAY for Dummies: Part (a) ...
Post by: Doggy Digger on March 31, 2011, 09:05:38 pm
Hi Slide crew,
Could you explain please, what is the little helmet stick for - that I've seen in a few
1970s photos, that points out of - and a bit above the view of - the helmet peak?
One I saw also seemed to have a little black knob at the end.  I guess you could call
it a Peak Stick.

Is it a sighting thing, for following curve of the track?   The ones I've seen seem
a bit too high to be use as a 'sight' ...

Doggy, anything attached to the peak was generally for tear off like devices.
There was a spring loaded mechanism that would hold 3 - 4 little pieces of perspex and all you had to do was hit the lever with your left hand and the dirty one would flick up out of the way.
There were many varied options around the time.
