OK probably been done & dusted before but I noticed that many regard the YZ250G as the best "Evo" yamaha built. Better than the H.
I have never riden either so I really dont have an opinion apart from I would have thought the H with it's 43mm forks & 5 speed gearbox would have slightly pipped the G given the rest is virtually the same. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
What is the opinion of you that have owned, riden or raced these bikes?

Many people reckon the extra weight in the forks and one less gear was a step backward :-\

I'm lazy. One less gear suits me. Very rarely, if ever, use 6th on the 250F. Come to think of it, 5th doesn't get a lot of use either.
Can't comment on the weight of the forks.
You didn't give you 2 bobs worth though?

No experience of G model so ... :-X

H steers better (steering head angle and bigger forks).
G has extra gear, slimmer tank.
I couldn't feel the other differences.
For me, the best bike would be an H with a G motor and tank.

IS one got the issue with the water in the frame thing ? ( i know fork all about this stuff)
also i thought evo was twin shock ? arent these monos ? ( again i know fork all about this stuff)

Evo= air cooled, drum brakes & no linkage suspension. YZ125 up to & including 1980, yz250/400/465 up to & including 1981
No the 125H & 125/250J were the water cooled ones throught the steering head

I've ridden Billet YZ's 250 G and it hammers! A lot of people actually thought it was a 465 out on the track (well, with Pete ridin' it anyhow). Really tourqey and sweet handling. I'd have his tommorow....
Geez freaky. After ten zillion post on here you still dont know that a cantelever YZ is an Evo bike ::)
