Probably a VF 414, a VE 414 and a YZ 250 L. Something non-pretentious.
Well what'ya know.
I already own 'em! Guess I'll spend it on the shed instead...... :)

You're so predictable K ;D
Seeing that my age transcends all of the eras I've got a pet project for all three major divisions.

Pre 65: I'd love to build a nice Cheney 650 Triumph using the best equipment...Ceriani/Ohlins/Rickman hubs/ Chantland 750cc kit.
Pre 75: '74 CCM.
Evo/pre 90: CR500 Honda with as much RC or Mugen stuff my 15k would buy.

The reality is that I'll never spend that kind of money on a vintage bike as my retirement plan won't allow it! However, I'm soon about to undertake the building of my other dream pre 65 using a new Swedish SOH frame and my Triumph 500 engine as the basis. I'm planning on using the best components the class rules will allow....in fact I've got everything except the frame/airbox right now. There should be some change from the final bill to build another el cheapo flat tracker too.
Below:: My dream Cheney and under that the reality SOH (with 500 Trumpy power instead of Royal Enfield)

The front wheel off an EML Jumbo, I'd have to save up for the rest
 ;)
(not quite pre '85 but anyway. .)

As usual, I choose quantity over quality.

Assuming that we don't already have a shed full of bikes...

1. 84 KDX200. A really good one is $1500, making them probably the best bang:buck of any pre-85 bike. Good enough for VMX at my skill leveling.

2. YZ250A or Ossa Phantom. Haven't looked carefully at what they sell for in the post GFC world, but am assuming that $8000 will get a good one.

3. Side pipe CZ. $5000 gets a good one, right?

4. Some $500 crapper - gotta have a project, right? Probably a pre-78 125.

If its bikes in addition to what's already in the shed, then scratch the project and the KDX, and replace them with a decent 84 KX125 or something.

Definately NOT one of those horrid HL monstrosities!

I would go for HL500, Fox Forx, Ohlins shocks and bombed motor. If I was lucky enough to find one of these pearls then I guess I would take the swine.... Husky 510 TC

One of these brand new JBR Honda replica 4 strokes that Rod Spry builds or a '79 CCM would be great.
Got enough 2 strokes..just need a trick 4 stroke. :)

For 15G I could finish my HL monstrosity ( I hear they handle better than RM 250s ;D), my CZ / CMS and at least one of my green thingy projects and then go shopping for a KDX 400 / 250 twinshock.

If you fancy some 4 stroke exotica there is a very very nice 510 Husly that has just become available from in the UK.  The builder is Mr Fussy and will stop and nothing to get it right in every respect ~ and he does, everytime.

All the right bits, would make a mega bike for someone lucky.  With the shipping I guess that you would have change from your $15,000.

form an orderly que.....

I have a soft spot for XS650s. Been struggling to resist the urge to buy some of Walters go fasst cranks and heads.

I am saying I saw it as an opportunity in it, to build a roaring, rootin, tootin, road registered Mettise, adventure tourer. I had arrived exactly at a $15k budget before A started this post. Been hell tempting ::) but I figure I should probably mature a bit instead.

Sorry GMC, A RED deal sponsorship just came through and I get too keep these two when the race season finish's for 2011,I feel it may be a bit expensive @ 15G for 2,but I'm sure I'll recover within the 2011 festive season race break.
Gee VMX is getting so expensive, isnt it..........   ;)    ;D    ;)
