Title: PE250 engine parts
Post by: brent j on March 23, 2011, 11:25:31 pm
I've just picked up a 1980-81 PE250 roller that someone has done a pretty fair job of restoring. The head, barrell, centre cases and outer covers are there but that's all for the motor. There are no leads as to where the rest of the motor might be

What are parts like or even a motor to pick up? What size carb did they run.

I'm in two minds as to what to do with this one. I don't really need another project but it was too good to pass up. And it was going to be dumped! The guy I bought it off just took the tires!!!!!!!!! :o

36mm roundslide mikuni

The rest of the engine you can find pretty easily on ebay. I bought a full transmission  not long ago from canada. Come to think of it, its still sitting at a friends in USA and i forgot about it till now. No real issues there. Plenty of guys in USA with parts for these.

If you want to split it up then put my name on the wiring loom if its the original one ;)

Brent , parts for these are like r soles. Allison looks like she has a container full of parts also.
They are a really nice enduro bike when set up properly and are quite peaky with a few mods

Thanks for all the replies guys,
The minister of finance and household peace has suggested I get rid of at least one bike before I start on this one. I have to admit I do see her point as I'm simply running out of room, AND time!

I want to keep this one as it's a good starting point but I think I'll have to get rid of a bike or two. The realities of trying to do too much is sinking in.

Post up a pic Brent.
As above, parts seem to be around and with the help of a few good men/woman on here, you might get it going at a decent cost.
You also have the luxury of slotting in a PE400 engine (if you can find one)
The T model had a bash plate,X,Z models had the frame loops to protect the cases, that will help you.

I'll put some tires on it this weekend and get a pic. I assumed it was a T as the side number plates are the swept back ones. BUT I think it has the side rails so I'll have to check the frame #

Now what are the thoughts on PE tanks. This one is in great shape but has no fuel in it. I'm wondering if it can be coated with something on the inside or so I take the usual chance and see if it splits?

It's just occured to me that I my know where there is a PE400 motor...........................

If you fully wash it out you could put in blue lightning tank liner but if you weren't running stickers I wouldn't bother just sand and poilish 250/400t and x had the same panels still available nos front guard and side plates. ;)

Putting something on the inside wont stop it cracking. The WA mob (see vmx247 thread) has a container full of PE tanks so you shouldnt have probs finding one if you do need one.
