How well does the 86 or single piston brembo work?
I have a caliper and brake that seems good apart from oiled pads.
Am I better going to the twin piston unit? I believe the twin piston unit came out in 87?
How long was this used for before something better came along? I want to use pre 90 components and will stick with the conventional 40mm husky forks for now.(a whole other can of worms..)
didnt find a whole lot with a search so any knowledge appreciated

They were worse than the drum they replaced and the disc craked and broke as well. Never tried it but replacing the master cylinder with a kawa one is suspose to be the hot tip. I would fit a honda from an XR or CR.

I had one on a '86 xc 250, better than drum but only just, I think the problem was very small pads, not much bigger than the piston.
I would say the twin pistons would be better. The pad surface is over twice as big.
Husky had WP USD forks from '87 onwards on some models, If you didn't want to go with the convential 40mm's

ok. some food for thought.. A WP 4054 front end or a cheap cr/yz etc or stay original..with twin piston brake- see how nice it is to ride first...

You might have trouble fitting a japanese calpier to a Husky disc. The euro's had a floating disc with a fixed caliper, where as the Japs had floating caliper with a fixed disc. Not sure how a floating disc and caliper would work and a fixed caliper on a fixed disc certainly won't work. Here's what you need to do to fix the problem.
1.Find yourself a 86/87 Honda cr250 front end.
2.call me.
3.I'll give you my '89 USD Honda front end.
4.and I'll have the 86/87 front end.
Problem solved.

As I understand it , the 86 is a floating disc but the 87(husky) reverts to a fixed disc ( twin caliper)
I can weld another lug onto the fork leg to accomadate different caliper.
What was the best brake pre 90?

What was the best brake pre 90? Anything Honda, 86/87 250 cartridge forks are cherry ripe. Either side ofthose years where pretty crap.

i see there a re plenty of cheap wp ktm forks on ebay- you priced freight brendan?

Yep,
It's floating around the $200 mark.
There are a couple of years where the KTM and Husky triple clamps where interchangable, so if you found the right year ktm forks with clamps they would bolt straight up.
I'll try and find what year it was.

...further that, '91 KTM clamps bolt up to Husky frame no mod needed.

Is the steering stem dia the same? and length? if the stem can interchange could be handy.
A mate is about to fit them to his 88 HVA, so keen to hear feedback on them. these have the clickers on them (late 80s) and damping rods have been rooney'd

From what I understand, the KTM stem and bearings are the same, so the clamps bolt straight up. The ones to use are '90/'91 triple clamps as they share the same steering stops as the Huskies.
