Title: Nepean rd 1.
Post by: Curly3 on March 07, 2011, 08:04:34 pm
Round one this weekend, who's up for it?
I'll be there but not sure of my condition, BWP's 60th the night before.
I'm going to try to get some of the old timers to come out on Sunday.

Geez, looks like i'll be racing myself, please keep the derogatory replies to yourself.
C'mon guy's, our sport needs more enthusiasm & participation.
Put your hand up.
The more I hear who's coming to the BWP reunion the night before, the more I question my decision to ride on Sunday, you may have to pour me onto the bike.
There may be a " Ghost " rider on the old number 2 who is a non drinker.
Just keep as low as you can in the first corner or you may be " Speared ".

I had my first little lie down for 28 years on a track today, sorry Ross I did my own imitation of a turtle for a few seconds, which way is up.
Lost a bit of bark and have a bruised hip but not feeling too bad.
Found out why I couldn't stop the thing or get any drive today, checked the rear tyre pressure when I got home and found 4.5 psi when I set at it 13 to start the day, DOH.
Thanks to all the officials for a good day.

woohoo, done, n bloody dusty, ;D,water truck definately got more track time than me! ???(paying attention MA),apart from that, another good day at the office!,good thing summer is over  ::),fugging hot,Jimbo was on a methanol mission   8),new guy Jason?,on a XT600,(practising crashes)should compare notes slidey  ;),although one was handy in the speedway corner, got you off my arse eh,till the next lap,(can't wait till you get the 500 innit :-\),sorry about the startline footplant, but was just saying g'day mate, you didn't have to move :D,couple new bullies turned up too, pursang going good, think the other was a matador?,flat rear stop play on that one,bit weird mixing moderns (current, not evo/pre 85)in with the classic 250's,pointless really, there were 2 heats!!,see yas next time, :P

Post by: micks on March 14, 2011, 03:46:04 pm
with you mick about the mixing of moderns, like you cannot see the benifit as there are two heats maybe if there is one heat to save on time.as for the water truck issue it was hot and the water was evaporating quicker than they could get it down. anyhow i am sure that penrith are running the same format as last year and for the weather to be a little milder on the 10th april.

Gimme a break gents, just because I hadn't washed her since 4 months ago doesn't make a bad person. I' I know she's a bit slow but I'm working on a implant as we speak.

Hey slidey how WAS your condition after sat nites p*** I mean knees up?
I suspect an encounter with several experienced consumers.
Puts me in mind of a raceday at Musswellbrook a long time ago when I remember the then race caller said "I dont Know what they did to Jimmy W at the club last night but it worked!."  Memory of a nice bloke.
 cheers pancho

BTW I took my XTslider to practice on saturday along with the old RT1, both of which are o.k. it seems the gremlins have been excorsised from ignition of the XT, and I am looking forward to April 10.
cheers

I was a very good boy Wally, backed off at about 9.30 and drank water until stumps.
Billy Mac, Ray Curtis, TH, Fraze, Pummo and all the other usual suspects, went pretty hard at it.
A great night all round, sad to see the physical change in others who are getting on a bit now, but thats better than the alternative.

cheers

One thing that really struck me Wally was, how these guy's that we all thought were bullet proof in the day, could look so fragile today.
My own childhood hero, The Captain, had 2 hearing aids and Fraze is recovering from recent Heart Surgery.
I want to catalogue as much of Short Circuits history as I can and as much as I don't want to admit it, these legends won't be around forever.
I need to pull my finger out and just get on with it.
Another attendee was Vince Tierney who won the OZ Junoir ( 350cc ) Title in 1960 which was also the year the year I was born.
Vince worked for my Dad for a number of years and has always been a very quiet, unasuming bloke but his health isn't the best at this time, he's 82 now and his mind is still crystal clear.
If I don't get off my arse, memmories could be lost forever.
I should add that Ian Burkett has kindly offered to help me out with my research as he actually raced for most of the Golden Years. :P

Amen to all your last post , Steve ,
Time goes by far too quickly , I haven't yet got back in contact with Ray and Steve Anderson to see what other films they have , I will do it when I go back down the coast.

I've also come across some pix of Charlie Edwards and Ray Owen at Romsey and also some info on Charlies Yamaha TD 350 twin thing that Booey rode at Bendigo ,also an article on Clarrie Jones in the early '70s.
I'll post them when I get a chance.

Just re-reading your post of the 16th steve and was speaking to Freddy the other day. He spoke about chatting to 'Debbo' and 'Monkey' among others. Interested to hear Vince T was there, another of natures gentlemen. Sorry I missed all of that.
 NEXT-who's for Nepean  on 10th?
 cheers pancho

Hey Pancho,I remember bumping into Freddie on the night but I forgot his name.
Speaking of another legend, Debbo, my memmories were of him being a towering man but the passing of time has made him stoop over a bit now but he is still a regular participant in rally's and simmilar events.
Him & Billy Mac rode dads Twingled Tiger 100 at the fist Nepean 6hr, they were quite a few laps in front when the oil tank split.
Billy did tell me about something, apart from oil, that dad put in the engine in an attempt to reach the flag,
while it worked for a little while eventually it stopped. I can't remember what it was that he used.
Great memmories.
Billy will be at Nepean this Sunday as his grandson is riding at the Speedway meeting.

Would that have been Bardahl Slides?, It was very big in the 60's and did some very impressive tests and demo's. Very good in engines that did not use slipper white-metal bearings for its anti friction qualities, but dissapeared after bad publicity re corrosion.
Our team used Moli-bond. cheers.  Roll on April 10!

i use to ride at nepean when they had pre 75 classes. i think i will only do the charity day this year as the entry fees are way to high and you dont get a lot of bike time as they have trouble running 2 rounds.

Wally. riding No 25 RT1 & XT slider.
For your information Matcho Mick my 'pony tail' has a purpose, By pulling it back and clamping it down it pulls the wrinkles out, lifts my eyebrows and makes me look alert.  cheers pancho.

 OK where were you lot?
I had a fun day anyhow, along with the rest of a pretty good roll-up.
Only two sliders turned up though, me and Col Laws, so first up I said to Col 'it looks as though between us, we should end up with 1st and a 2nd'.
The track was good but very slick, and a good time was had by all.
My RT1 had its first outing for 3 or so years and after getting very hot at the start line waiting for the water truck to do its bit the engine suddenly stopped turning 'round coming into turn 1 and sent me sliding into the corner at a fairly fast rate on my bum. However it was very neatly executed even if I say so, with no bent levers, handlebars, or such and only minor skin missing of my 'padded area'. My slider was going well but Col was going better.
After the RT1 cooled down it went fine, had a bit of trouble changing gear with the wrong pedal [silly thing is on the left]
Hope to see some of you at Penrith clubs AGM on wednesday [club paceway 7:30]  cheers pancho.

Thanks Jim, some people say that I don't even know what day it is but they're wrong.
It's the month that I have trouble with.
I meant to say May.
I've been working 7 days a week lately and I'm losing all sense of time.
I'll be well and truly ready for some " ME " time when June finally gets here.

i fired up the tt500 staracer today started 3rd kick not bad since it wasnt run since august 2010.those methenol motors sure are good things.
its faily heavy compairedto my cr250 but i will get used to it.not too sure about the lh peg its up faily high as the only turn left in the usa and i supose dont change gear all that much.52 can tell us all about it when he gets back.might see about lowering it but will make evey thing so it can bolt back as std.
my second outing for this year wii be the 9th july practise day.should have yz125x tt500 and cz400 to test out for the pre 75 pre 85 weekend.

Sorry to hear you have back probs Jim. Look after yourself.
The tt 500 sounds like an interesting device, I'm keen to see it perform.
Meanwhile Steve is keeping OZ in front, what with these long hours! Just remember you Must have home time and play time!
 cheers pancho.
