mate asked me if i knew of anyone interested in buying his bike, its a 500 single suzuki, and i think he said it was a 82 model Drz ??
anyway he want $1,500 - 2000.
-
If it's an 82 / 500 then it'll be a DR500s.
It would want to be bloody goodun for that sort of money.
-
just the messenger.....
-
Kerry, to be honest they fetch SFA
-
SFA are my initials, belive it or not, must be why I've managed fetch 4 of em into my shed.
I wasn't trying to be a smart arse Kerry, just channelling Darryl Kerrigan.
-
If its a US spec 500Z model and not a 500SZ model then there will be more interest in it. I know there was a few getting around in SA back then, several had sidecars on them. If you could post a photo that would be great.
-
DR500Z looked like bigger weightier version of DR400T except with steel tank and bigger lump. It was when Suzuki decided that everyone wanted 'playbikes' and they stopped even pretending 4 strokes could be light and fast. ;D
-
wow not bad for one of them. i got a fairly decent cond dr500s in the shed in reasonable cond. all original, everything there. speedo, rev, light. everything. except has a 500sp motor in it.
-
Im pretty sure that the DR500S motor is the same as the SP500 motor isnt it? Basically because USA already had a Enduro DR500 X, Z & D, instead of calling their 500 trail version (Our DR500S) another DR, they just called them a SP. Our DR's were basically their SP's until there were a few USA spec DR's that were imported here and also later on in the 80's we had 2 versions of the DR250 and both were called DR's.
-
ahh good to know. looks like the same motor. thought maybe it might of had a few more ponies thats why the bloke put it in there. goes pretty hard for a old 4 stroker. doesnt have the thrill of a 2 stroke though.
-
I'm pretty sure they all use " SP " in the engine number, all of mine do.
They definitely are a big lump of an engine Marc.
I've got one on the bench that is going to Jenny Craige's as we speak.
Apologies to your mate for the hijack Freaky but it's rare these old girl's get mentioned.
If you can post some pic's and he's prepared to negotiate, you never know.
-
Freaky , easy way to Id motor is by case screws ( bolts ) - folding gear lever -air assisted fork tubes
which would then be known as a Dr 500SZ 1982
1983 /84 came with alloy swing arms with pillion pegs ... 84 had longer forks ( taper tops ) and reservoir rear shocks.
DR 500 engines # came into there own around 1983.
Marc , I agree they heavy M/Farkers ... but on the plus side they are one hell of a tough motor.
-
One of these in a PE chassis would be the go i reckon.
-
it has an alloy pointy back tank, which was why i noticed it and he poilished all the alloy so it must hat alloy tripples and so on. I really didnt look to hard at it, but he did ask if i knew anyone.
-
Postman still hasnt bought my parts Freaky......
-
A birdy told me they are in the post ;) if they turn up friday I'll bring them to track Sunday.
Leith , already been there .... motor is way too tall ;D
-
And the tank.
-
Well i know you can do it with the DR400 motor.
-
Heavy, what's the matter with you blokes.Just need to build your arms up a bit.
I have 3 of them now.one of them is a enduro version i think?,longer forks, alloy swing arm{no rear pegs},no tacho fittings, solid mounted foot pegs and no neutral light switch. Now also have Pe 250c and Pe 175. Hope to catch up with old Fart soon.Cheers
-
Tony , My piece of shit is giving me grief at the moment ;D
-
They definitely are a big lump of an engine Marc.
Yeah but the ultimate single from Suzuki must be the DR BIG, wonder if there are still any lurking about. You can go one up on the big bore boys/
-

I'd second Sliderulz. I have one down the back yard. It's a DR500 of some sort. It is big and it is porky.
