Pretty good buying for $2,750. There was another one listed last week for $2,800 Both easy $3,500 bikes in my opinion. Four years back a race ready one went for $5,200. Market might be softening up at the moment.

I think the market is slowly but surely getting saturated with desirable bikes thanks to a few importers bringing in container after container of the same bikes.

TT500s go into the same basket as Choppers and muscle cars, major fads that attracted the fashion slaves, now good luck selling your 10K TT500, 80K Chopper or 100K Mustang for anything like the original 'investment'.
If you think you have lost a little on your market peak VMX purchase, spare a thought to the car and Harley guys who had vastly more $$$$ in their projects. I know of a Mustang for sale at the moment that owes 250K and can't get a bite at 70K. As for choppers that market is dead as mutton.

I knew the chopper market would die as they are way overpriced for what they are. Most of the money is in labour to put them together. The sum of the parts don't add up to $70-80,000 and I don't really know how the labour does either. At the end of the day a chopper will always be worth less than a stocker.
As for the TT500's I wouldn't put them into the chopper/mustang basket. I owned one new in '76 and have followed the TT market ever since. It's grown steadily and has a cult following more so than fashion fad following. Although I'm sure their would be a few. It could just be the old supply and demand or it could be the economy. Fuels up, waters up. powers up, groceries are up, wages aren't so something has to give, and it's usually that bike taking up room in the garage that you don't ever ride. A fully restored XT500c did pull about 7K a few months back. But I have noticed the TT/XT market isn't as hot as it was a year or two ago, but a lot of other VMX bikes seem to be slowing as well. Moderns too, try selling your four year old dirtbike that you paid 13K for. Be lucky to get $6,000 for it if you can sell it at all.

a mate of mine bought one of the flash 2010 yzf450's when they came out, the fuel injected backwards motor ones.

$5500, that much eh ;D yeah i am looking for another trail bike, I am expecting to get 2006-2007 anything for between 2-$3000. You just put the word out at your friendly stealership that you are willing to take a trade in off their hands.

Anyone who paid in excess of $600k for a GT Falcon with race history may be looking at $400k max thats if they get a bite.
Markets fluctuate with generations and what people grew up with. With most things you either buy to keep for a long time or get in and out fast to minimize any chance of losing a lot of money. That is what separates the true collector/enthusiast and the investor.

the UK went through this in the 90s where cars and bikes got pumped up to the max, the only thing that is worse is an aircraft or a boat/

hey mark thats not a white 65-66 hard top that gets trailerd to shows and dosen't even get started to take it out of the trailer? if it is the one i think it is a mate of mine from sydney has a hg monaro that came second to that mustang in the elite class at the summernats and the monaro gets driven every weekend and was driven from sydney to canberra the time he showed it there.cheers gary

No this one is in NZ, but it is one of a few I know of that are on the block at the moment with no takers. Of course some guys still have the loot..... one of my friends is chopping up brand new Merc SLC at the moment for some German, to get this... fit 69 Mustang body panels to it. ::)

Too ugly. Though I'm suprised the motors aren't used in more franken bike projects as they run a wet sump and don't have the hassle of fitting an oil tank like the TT/XT motors.

I think the XT TT being the original Japper diesal dirt bike give it that credibility :) those XR XLs are pug ugly things :P but as has already been said the motors have merit (if you like riding diesals ;))

Not NOS or in popular color..... that won't get the true TTista going..... now NOS muffler or Yam road kit and you are into $$$$ .... make it orange TT tank and they would tear your arms off. So how many years has that motor been in production, 35 perhaps as you can still buy a new 2011 SR400/500.

Yep you move into old Harleys or the other old Yankee bikes like Indians, Excelsior, Hendersons, Cyclones etc and you need to have Jay Leno's budget to keep up. Cyclone board tracker sold for USD 550 K last year.
Back to TT500s seems the parts that broke or were binned first like the speedo bracket and muffler get good bucks. NOS you can triple the whatever you would expect to pay/

Yeah in 2000 I paid $2,200 for a tidy TT500c had to umm and ahh a bit but thought shit it was the first one I'd come across in twenty years of on and off looking. It came with a stock muffler, it was used to round up cattle on a hobby farm. The muffler is now worth near what I paid for the bike. Well... not quite but..

Rare and desirable model ...... a lot of TT500 guys want all the models so that makes the TT500C and the TT500H quite sort after.

Yeah you can pretty much do the whole road kit out of repro or TY stuff, I think someone is also producing the speedo bracket which was the Holy Grail for a while.
Hell who wouldn't reproduce it when it got retardedly expensive. I think if you are building one better to start from pile of good bits rather than donor bike. I picked up NOS TT500 frame for $300, very low km SR500 motor for $200 and mint tank for $300 so it is possible like with all VMX projects to do something good without breaking the bank.

Swings and roundabout mate, I have had some 'bargains' turn into unholy cock ups along the way. The 4 grand I have in my F1 is not bad, I seem to do much better on the Ducati stuff.
