Title: ball bearings
Post by: maxi81 on March 04, 2011, 09:11:15 pm
Does anyone know what size ball bearings are used for the steering head for a RM 400T? I took my old balls to a bearing shop and they sized them up and gave me new ones, but I think they are a bit smaller. I was told you need 18 ball bearings for my bike, but I needed 20. Does that mean the ball bearings I just bought are too small?

Thanks

Not sure what size they are but they do take 18 balls.
Not sure why they leave a gap for 2 extra balls, but suzuki do.
I've been there and just fit the 18 as they specify.

In the B/C/N models they used to fill the entire circle.
BUT they realised this tended to jam and I am fairly certain T had the gap - deliberately.

The air gap is for the expansion of the balls due to the heat created from the super quick handling of the Suzuki's ;)

Seriously, the balls are a std 8mm for top and bottom for the N and T's. I've find usually on near any model there is not quite enough room to fit ball number 19 when the correct size is used ;)

Loose balls you can get from VXB bearings on ebay. Im just not sure if they have metrics though.
