aNYONE HAVE ANY IDEA on how to free up the forks ?
OBviously the frame needs to be off the ground to release them backdown. ( otherwise the wheel is always hard on the ground and you can go past ground hey ! )
think stewy has tried a few things but hes not winning, any techniques, ideas or letters of support he would be much appriciative of :P

are there springs ? though it just had rubber bands hanging of those grease nipple rods/part and the top rails ?
See i have no idea............... :-[

IS this a standard fitment for a long track seat or similar going by the distances ? and does it mount by a bolt slide horizontally through that sleeve on the frame where your nuts are like the US trackmaster do of is it some other fitment ? assume the back mounts on that rail somehow ? anyone got pics of how the hagons etc do it ? Dogey can you post up under your seat for us ? and the frameing under there as well ? cheers blokes

Freaky, there pretty much was no standard fitment for the seat, there were heaps of theories as to what sized seat to use.
Next time your at a meeting where there are a group of sliders, sit on each to see what size and height suits you.
-
sorry freaky I'll withdraw my statement as the photo didn't show up when i was looking at it.
-
Ok its sitting on a milk crate - wheel off ground & half a can of CRC has been used and the fugging thing is still stuck solid ???
-
bigger hammer ;D
-
Oh
so this is why there is an engine in my garage............ :)
-
Freaky,
The back of the seat bolts to the hole thru the cross bar in the top of the rear A frame , it's usually a small piece of angle with an upright T piece or a T shaped bracket with spacing and holes to suit seat height and the front bolts to the little cross piece at the rear of the diamond.
As Slides says, check a couple of other sliders out and work out a seat and height that suits you.
As far as the forks go, wheel out, top cross piece off, and treat each fork leg individually, get them sliding well , then , assemble them with wheel and top cross piece, without damper unit , if they still stick, pull wheel out and see if it is a problem with axle spacing, if still sticky you may have to apply gentle persuasion to get each leg of the H piece parallel.
The bloody things bend like spaghetti and I've torn me hair out more than once to get them working properly, gave up on the last set and got Ray Dole and Peter Campbell to sort them out for me.
Good luck with them

You're right about the fork legs Foss, I remember dad wacking the ones out of my Speedway bike, after I turned it over out of the start, on a timber fence post at Nepean to straighten them.
Agricultural I know but he got them working again.
-
Yeah, Slides,
Been there , done that . Seriously though, front wheel between the knees and reef them straight with the handle bars, on that dvd I sent you , one of the Poms does the old fork straighten trick after the big prang at Wambanumba.

Got those suckers apart with a LARGE hammer. And yes one leg slides up and down freely and the other gets stuck mid stroke.....I recon it has a slight bend, as you can see a definate wear mark.
There is a little bit of head stem movement ... is this the norm ???? or does Freaky need to buy new bushes.
Bolt is not worn.
-
My, you have lovely hands Stu.....and the nail polish......mens secret bussiness eh!!!! :o :-X ;D....secrets safe with me lovvey.... ;D
-
Yeah , most of the Hagons etc have a little bit of head stem movement, I have a grease nipple in my Hagon's head stem as well as the fork legs, and clean and grease it every time the bike is used, if it is badly worn then a new distance piece may have to be machined up, check out of round of the frame head-stock first.
If the legs of the H piece are parallel in both planes , sometimes you can get a tight spot out of the H piece using a suitable mandrel driven into it , carefully, or a slotted rod and abrasive cloth, first work out where the tight spot is and concentrate efforts there.

Davey you just make sure that thermos is full and hot this weekend OK ;).
Foss .. ( slotted rod and abrasive paper ) I will give that a go in the next few days, in the mean time it is soaking in a molassis brew
-
Hey Olds
Mollasses soak is good idea cos those things get pretty crappy with rust etc inside the H piece , water runs down the fork leg rod and collects there if the forks aren't fully extended, so the rubber bump stops are sealing the rod hole, sort of , when the bike gets a hose down.
Let us know how you get on.

wow sounds like a prity productive night on here !!!

front sliders seem to stick @ half stroke for some wierd reason. Have spun them up in my lathe and they run true ( inners )
any one shed some light on whats going on there ??????
