have a 250 motor but it has factory blank stamping ( no engine number)
suspect its a replacemtn blank but anyway the cast number is iszz214R rod is stamped S-2 and the barrel is 10 hole.
So its a 250cc RM or PE form 80 "s does anyone no for sure which.
-
Hey Freaky,
A quick way to determine if it is RM or PE would be to look at the ignition…
VMX42
Also I don't think the RM had the cutout in the cylinder fins for the rubber sound deadening blocks…
-
no ign. its the bottom end im more deterined to confirm what it is before i sell it., the barrel etc may well be PE etc, but i dont want to short change peeps on the bottom end.
-
that makes it much harder, good luck!!
-
Bit dusty but you get the idea

The clutch cover looks like a PE250C.
-
1977 or 1978 Pe or RM .....look on cases @ flat edge by kick start spine - should reveal all.
I will put my hand up for clutch cover :)
-
what am i looking for there ? stew.
remebr its a factory blank case ( no engine numbers)
-
this is a spare cover/clutch i have also Stew, no idea what thats off either ?
this one any good to you

-
that is a 80-82 pe250-400 clutch cover by the look of it freaky. ;)
-
Note the difference in clutch drive hub 77/78 has no flat base 1980-81-82 has
-
So no use to you ??
-
i take it the clutch arm is relocated ? not on the cover like the TM style fitting then. ONLy PE or RM as well is this one ? say mag on it and has small weld inside.
-
Yes ... 1980 models moved clutch pivot in front of sprocket, hence no bracket on cover.
1977-78 250 clutch cover is what I want. :)
-
little ign box ends in #1420, so is it a PE250 (77+) not sure on the stator etc but may or may not have been with it,
-
If it is 77 pe250 I would be interested I have two 250b's and only 1 motor.
The pe250b definetly has the twin plughole head thanks Michael. :)
-
79 has twin plug head
-
Did 77 because my 250b bottom end came with the cylinder and head with twin plug hole the cylinder and head fit bugger the cases are missing there numbers my bottom end is at our factory I will have to get up there and check.

-414 is PE B/C/N and the 20 says B model.
-
it is most definately a '77 PE or possible PE RM hybrid but I'd go for PE250B. Is there clearance under the pipe for a second plug on a PE? I wouldn't have thought it possible :-\
-
The 250 b had a bolt in the second plug hole you could have a decomp or a second plug the 250b pipe is fairly narrow in comparison to a t/x model.
-
oK so its a PE 250B 77 with ignition ( not sure if it makes sparks or not) bike dropped 2nd gear and was pulled out, cases opened to fix gear but it never happend.
iim interested in selling it complete or in 3 parts if it adds up to the same. So who's in ?
Also selling the other cover and clutch section from the later model, Best offer
-
I am keen on the 250b ignition thanks Michael.
-
Interested in early clutch cover.
-
77 & 78 RM/PE crank & cases differ by;
RH crank web - Common
RH cases - Common
LH crank web - PE Longer to accept flywheel. RM short to accept inner stator.
LH case - RM has the wiring exit via the ignition cover. PE exits via the flywheel case.
You can use a PE left case in place of an RM. To use a RM case in place of a PE you would have to fabricate a cutout for the wiring.
Note: I have seen some RM engines with a 1/2 moon grommet in the location where the PE wiring would normally exit. I guess they did this to reduce parts complexity, ie common cases.
What you have there is a 77/78 PE250 engine.

MIchael PM me withthe details of your offer for the MAg, stator and CDI box. MAgnets are all good and statro looks low hour, have not idea on the cdi. complete but i cant tell you if it works or not, but the monies in the Flywheel right ! and that perfect.
-
Will this bolt onto and run on a PE400 - 1980 model ?? his had FP4166 @ 4192 1B stamped in the same place as this one is.
i have complete set up, so the stator, flywheel, coil and cdi and have a guy that wants to fix his 400 ( his magnets all smashed up in rotor)
can anyone tell me if it all fits to a 400 as well if its 250B or if not do any of the items do and which ones ( numbers on the unit is pics - thanks

YES it will fit. "it" being the rotor/stator/CDI as a set.
however, as the PE250B ran a bit more advance, you might want to experiment and move things around.

RM250B,C,C2 V'S PE250B,C,N -The PE WILL HAVE THE CASE REEMED OUT FOR 5TH GEAR AS THE GEAR RATIOS WERE DIFFERNT FROM THE RM'S YOU CAN PUT ALL RM GEARBOX INTO PE CASES BUT NOT PE GEARS INTO RM, ALL GEARBOX PARTS ARE CONDITIONALLY INTERCHANGABLE ALL PARTS OTHER THAN COUNTERSHAFT, 1ST DRIVEN GEAR, 3RD DRIVE AND DRIVEN GEARS, 4TH DRIVE AND DRIVEN GEARS AND 5TH DRIVE AND DRIVEN GEARS ARE INTERCHANGEABLE, THE CRANKSHAFTS ARE DIFFERANT RM HAS ROTOR AND PE FLYWHEEL, YOU CAN INTERCHANGE CRANK'S THE PE MAG COVER IS LONGER TO ACCOMIDAITE THE FLYWHEEL AND THE ADVANCE CURVE RATE IS DIFFERANT ON THE CDI PACK.
BOTH PE AND RM USE VM36SS CARBIES BUT RM HAS NO IDLE SCREW AND THE JETTING AND NEEDLES ARE DIFFERANT, THE PORTING ON THE BARRELS ARE DIFFERANT, REED BLOCK THE SAME, USE THE SAME PISTON AS RM 1977,78,80 AND 81 THE 1979 PISTON HAS THE SINGLE RING, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE TWO HOLES IN THE PISTON FOR THE EXHAUST PORT BRIDGE LUBRICATION, THE HEAD ON THE PE IS DIFFERANT BIGGER COMBUSTION CHAMBER AND A SECOND PLUG HOLE (ACTUALLY FOR A DECOMPRESSION DEVICE) AND THE PE250 B,C,N ARE CLOSER TO BEING RM250B,C,C2 THAN THE RM250A AS THE BORE AND STOKE ARE COMPLETELY DIFFERANT ON THE RM250A'S THE BARREL IS 70MM BORE STD AND SHORTER BECAUSE OF THE 64MM STROKE, RM 250 B,C, C2 AND PE 250 B,C,N STD 67MM BORE AND 70MM STROKE.
