I need to do a bank transfer to someone in NZ and I told the guy at a minimum I need his account number and bank number and I may need a IBAN & Swift (not sure as Ive never done a transfer to NZ before)
Anyway he gets back to me with a number like this
XX-XXXX-XXXXXXX-XX
I said I need at least an acc & bank number (BSB) and he said thats all he has got. So I said maybe both numbers are joined together? He didnt really know.
Does any one know if the numbers are split into 2 parts eg the first 2 digits plus the 4 after are one number and the 7 digits and the last 2 are the other number? If so which is BSB and which is ACC?
The bank is National Bank
Thanks

That site doesnt work. I i tried the first 6 digits with and with out the dash. My guess is that link is American anyway. My bank is hopeless too. They get reall sh**ty if you havent got all the right details and paper work filled out.
-
He should be able to give you his account # & bank branch at least. I bank with National bank in NZ & my acc # has 15 digets in total.
I have never had problems getting swift codes for the banks either
Where is he in NZ
Cheers Daryl

All NZ bank accounts are in the format of 2 numbers (bank), 4 (branch), 7 (individual account), then 2 (sub-account, e.g. -00 for cheque). Sometimes a particular transaction requires 3 digits for the sub-account, so one adds another zero - e.g. -01 becomes -001.
If all else fails PM me and I can arrange it through my firm's trust account - for my sins I am a lawyer (cue abuse... ::) in Auckland.

Lieth NZ accounts are 01 0587 1546894 000
01 0587 1546894 000
bank branch account number prefix ( somtimes drop off the last prefix digit ie 01 0587 1546894 00 )
Dont know what BSB is though
If its more than $AU 100.00 you will need a special clearence as that equates to about 7 billion Pacific Pesos ;)
-
leith . I have a Westpac NZ account and is listed as 12 1234 1234567-12 account number , there appears to be no BSB as in OZ.
So I would have to agree with Tm Bills post

well the amount i need to send is over $100 NZ but ive never knew you needed clearance to send more. Hopefully its not too much because it already costs $33 to a wire transfer as it is.
all i have from him is that 15 digit number as above displayed with those dashes
So are you guys saying those 15 digits are just his account number and everything all in one and thats all i need and i dont need a BSB number? He reckons thats all he has but im gonna have to try ask again if i need a BSB or something that ID's the bank.
The joys of no Paypal
He is in Timaru
Thanks

Lieth sorry mate that was a piss take due to our sad currency exchange ;) does he not take paypal :o

go into your bank with the details and let the bank do it (it looks like a international bank transfer to me)
-
You still need the BSB number as that what identifies the bank internationally, he will have to ring his bank ask them for that number as it is not part of your standard bank a/c number.
-
01 0587 1546894 000
bank branch account number prefix ( somtimes drop off the last prefix digit ie 01 0587 1546894 00 )
The BSB is what identifies the bank & the branch, therefore according to Bill the first 6 digits are the BSB
I think IBAN is international code for BSB, but my memory is a bit foggy.

What a pain in the arse, if he's dinkum about getting the money, get him to sort it out through his bank or open a Paypal account. Why should you have to hold his hand and get mummy to sort it out ? Jeez it's the 21st century.. ::)
-
Yeah no one on Trade Me has Paypal. the local bank is useless. You have to have a form filled out with all these details and they are really strict about it. If you dont have all the details they wont do the transfer and they dont try to unjumble or work out what numbers are what for you. I used to be able to walk in with a heap of numbers from some Euro countries and the bank tellers would be there for ages and had to make phonecalls to Sydney to work out what one is the IBAN etc. It makes you wonder how they actually get a job being a bank teller as ive found some dont know much at all. But now thats too hard for them and i got to have it all filled out on a sheet for them. I do these all the time to Euro countries no worries as they give you the IBAN and SWIFT numbers but this is the first NZ one.
Im thinking GMC might be right about the first 6 numbers being the BSB number

Whenever I've bought stuff from Spain direct I've done it through Netbank (Commonwealth) Int transfer.
The IBAN is usually a couple of letters then numbers like this:
EP32 0072 0605 3905 0003 1616
Then there's the BIC (which I think is the abbreviation of the bank the theiving pricks are sticking it into):
POPUESSM
And then just punch in the amount and go and have a nice lay-down :'(

if in doubt Google will tell you ;D

Be care full, when i paid for a gas tank over there his bank took a fee from him around $25 bucks ??? so for me to pay him the extra $25 bucks it cost me $30 bucks from my bank and i had to allow an extra $25 for his bank cost...so to send the diffrence of $25 it cost me $80.00 :-[
-
Yeah that sucks that our bank charges a fee and then the recievers bank charges a fee. At my bank we are not allowed to do the International transfers our selves. It all gets done behind the counter.
After reading the wikiapedia link it looks like i have the details i need i hope, and the BSB is the first 6 digits and the rest of them are just his acc number. Thanks for those who offered help. The seller is going to ring his bank tomorrow also to make sure.

It's really just your banks trying to make more money seeing as unless the bank is kiwibank or tsb they're all owned & run out of oz >:(

I have received a few international funds over the years and they always had $15.00 missing. Customers always claimed to have sent the right money and the banks here couldn’t answer where it went.
Didn’t matter what country it came from.
It did go up to $18.00 a few years back, not sure what it is now.
I used to wear it as it would be taken from a frame kit price but then I once shipped some small parts and it took the bloody profit right out of the job.
Scaping a bit from the top of every international transaction is going to be my next business.
Paypal is so much easier, they take a bit more on larger amounts but at least you know where you stand.

Leith sorry I have been away off the forum. If its not too late, you can pay me the money via paypal and I will do the internet transfer for you.Email me at [email protected]
