Title: What model TT500?
Post by: Davey Crocket on January 28, 2011, 08:52:20 pm
Hey there all you TT500 guru's, what model had a silver tank and black stripes?...I'm going to look at it tommorow, are they worth anything?. Can you tell me the model numbers and years so I can identify it? Anything to look for apart from the owners limp?...cheers in advance.DC.

Don't know the numbers, but black and silver were used on the TT500G/H (80/81), and the XT500G. I think the XT-H was different tho can't remember exactly. If I recall right, there were no major differences between the 79, 80 and 81 TTs, as the big changes were in the 79 model year.

Check the number on the steering head and the motor, they should match. This will tell you what model it is.

One more question, what years could you register TT500's?

Not sure about the rego thing, I think 77 was the first year ADR plates were needed. So perhaps the first year of the TT - the 76 C - could be rego'd? That said, we were registering non-ADR bikes up until at least 82 in Qld. I had a rego'd TT500F and an 82 DR250 white tank.

Just check the frame and engine numbers, they'll give you the year.

I've known owners to be "mistaken"

dont know about the XT-TY525 though....

The XTY525 is a XT500 converted to a trialer by a frenchman

XTY photos (http://www.frederic-fleury.com/serie/101-Yamaha-XTY-525)

Nice work, but i think it's too heavy for serious trialriding

Geez your having a bit of bad luck lately Davey.
First your workshop gets flooded and now your only a couple of weeks away from ripping you calf muscle to pieces when your moccasin clad foot slips of the kickstarter while trying to prove how tough you are while pissed.

You could always keep the motor and back wheel and build a HL
I could have one ready for you just before the next 100 year flood

I gotta good right leg Geoff, I even kick my Berg with my right leg (old war injury to the left leg). I've heard so many stories about the TT500 limp I'm very weary of it. This one will slip through the hands grasshopper....purely a business deal this one.It would be a good buy for someone as its a 2 owner and pretty original....Geoffery my man....you dont have a HL replica do you?....maybe nows the time to get cracking....a display bike for the showroom LOL ;D ;D....I can set you up with a frame guy....mind you, if your gonna ride/parade it you will have to do somethig about those midget legs you roll around on...or get someone to follow you with a box to stand on. :D

A display bike, ha, you don’t know me too well do you.
I won’t need a box to get on my HL if you find me a set of YZ-D forks.
No trouble starting those things here, I didn’t buy property with hills by accident you know

Might be best if you move it on, you couldn’t handle the power ;D

Your Jedi mind games won’t work on me young Slyporker.
I already have a reasonably nice XT that patiently awaits an engine rebuild & classic rego.

You will probably be horrified, but it’s on my bucket list to ride it to the Muster one day.

I'll save you.  Send them to me.

My shit arsebackward riding skills seem to work really well with overweight bad handling motorcycles.  Or maybe it's because I've always riden overwieght bad handling motorcyles that my arsebackward skills don't work on anything else.
