The boys in the wedding party that I shot today, loved their local pub with a strange name..................

I think if you are Firkin thirsty you go should to Narrellan Pub.

We went the other day for new years refreshments

Never know who you will meet, there were no Fox's but there was a real Firkin.

Isn't it ironic that the world wide fame of the Firkin name is pubs. Who'd of thought that??

"A Firkin is an old English unit of volume. The name is derived from the Middle Dutch word vierdekijn, which means fourth, i.e. a fourth of a full-size barrel. The firkin (a firkin of water) is the base unit of mass in the FFF (Furlong/Firkin/Fortnight) System of units.

For beer and ale a firkin is equal to 9 Imperial gallons (about 40.915 L) or a quarter of a barrel. Casks in this size (themselves called firkins) are the most common container for cask ale. The word "firkin" (as in "Fox & Firkin") is frequently considered a suitably atmospheric word by those naming an English-style pub — by implication, the establishment will thus be either a new pub in the UK or a foreign imitation of a British pub."

The Firkin pubs are huge around my home province of Ontario, Canada.  My local was the Filly & Firkin.  "Filly up my Firkin mug" was the catch phrase.  Every single suburb has one now though, kinda outgrew it's own uniqueness.  Good pub grub however.

I must lead a quiet, sheltered little life. I'd only ever heard of a couple of other 'Firkin' pubs. Seems they're everywhere...............  ::)

Hey what about a Pub called Firkin and "Merkin".....  Look that up on wikipedia....... :-*
