Flicking thru my RMX manual I noticed the clutch side crank seal is shown with the spring side facing away from the crank but the parts breakdown a few pages earlier shows the spring side facing in! I followed the parts break down so have I stuffed up? The stator side seal is shown spring side in towards the crank on both sections I thought both seals would be the same :-\

Spring side is always on the outside or away from the pressure side (not facing towards the crank) Do not trust parts books, they are always full of mistakes, especially the way parts are drawn or positioned in the drawing.

double spring seal

Even if its a double spring seal, there will be a side that is the obvious 'wiper' or 'dust' seal. This side goes away from the crank. Also if you look at the seal it will have a open and closed end. Open end goes towards the pressure side as the pressure helps push the lip onto the shaft. Its the same prinicple as any other seal in a hydralic or Pneumatic system. Also another way to tell is that the numbers usually face towards the outside too.

double spring seal
:)
Looks like that clutch covers coming off strange how the stator side seal faces the other way.

I used a aftermarket seal kit and I had a good look at it before installing it looked to me like it was closed on both sides. I'm going with oem this time.
