Title: 1985 YZ490 N Rod Kits ??????

This one for a mate, anyone know what aftermarket Rod kits are available for 1985 YZ490N ?
Pro-x are no longer available and my mate says Hot rods don't do that model.

Are you sure they're different to IT490, or WR500? Yamaha often changes the part numbers, but leaves the part the same, or makes a slight alteration to the part and gives it a new number.

Post by: LWC82PE on January 24, 2008, 09:56:29 pm: sound like you need to try BB importers in WA. they would probably have a japanese aftermarket one, maybe a Long brand or TKRJ or what ever they are called, i think that brand does rods? tomorrow i will dig out their list for aftermarket rods for yamahas and will see whats listed. is it the same as other yams? i spose its the same as a WR 500? or IT490?

have you tryed the guy selling nos stuff out the back of Yamaha Pitmans in SA?

to alan or ron at bikes and bits in west aust they could be able to cross referance it they have done stuff like that for me in the past 8)

Also just cos ProX don’t have a Rod listed you could find a distributor who still has stocks of them.

Post by: LWC82PE on January 25, 2008, 01:23:08 pm: yeah it probably is. ive only got a big list of rods but i couldnt remember what numbers were Prox or Long or other brand. it doesnt say and its been ages since i looked at the list.

BB importers can also fax you a rod dimension sheet. you filll in the dimensions and fax it back and they will match it to something if they dont have a specific one listed. my copy of this faxed rod dimension sheet is faded though. they also got a piston dimension sheet too, that can be filled out and faxed to them. its good if your trying to find parts to build up some sort of special engine or something or looking for a certain oversize piston.
