Title: Taller front forks for a YZ80C?
Post by: mudguard on January 05, 2011, 08:38:39 pm
Looking for info on Yamaha YZ80D front forks. They are taller than YZ80C forks but by how much? Is the difference in height noticable? Are the bottom legs the same for C & D, but the D has longer inner tubes?

i can't say for sure but i owned a YZ80D back in the day and i'm pretty sure they're the same forks.
the YZ80D did have longer upper tubes but from memory it was a screw in style of lengthener that took a regular style of fork cap. if that makes sense.
drunk as i type...
to drop the tubes in the clamps made the bike look out of balance and also made them turn like a "chopper".
best set up was to have a lot of tube sticking out of the top of the clamps.
so if thats the case, whats wrong with the YZ80C set up?
it was a long time ago...

Hey Vandy,
The front & rear suspension is ok, but I'm trying to get some more height by changing the suspension. I have a set of NOS rear D gas shocks to put on the bike. They are 20mm longer than the C rear shocks so I thought that if I could get D forks or inner fork tubes, it might add a little height overall. I want to keep the bike looking as standard as it should so I'm not into spoiling it by putting oversized leading axle forks or longer rear travel shocks.

Hey mudguard if you get to change your tube's would be interested in old ones if they are in good usable condition, from distant memory the d had longer tubes but not sure if travel increased .cheers ELC hunter.

Mudguard the YZ80D forks have the same travel as A/B/C YZ80 forks as the lower legs are the same, the fork tubes are longer on the YZ80D, they will fit straight onto a YZ80C as the triple clamps are the same as the YZ80D, you could also use 77/83 model DT/MX100 forks as they use the same fork as the YZ80D, fork slider parts etc are no longer avalible from Yamaha, you can use Honda CT110/XR75 forks slider parts as the lower fork leg internals are the same.
