Title: What the?
Post by: bigk on January 24, 2008, 09:31:46 am
Call me callous, cold hearted, inconsiderate or whatever you like but who really gives a flying F#@% about Heath Ledgers demise? Too bad if you wanted to watch something else on TV last night. Reporters flying over to be at his doorstep, they even interviewed his school teachers for chrissake! I watched one of his movies, maybe they'll interview me. Yep, I suppose it's sad, but is it the only news in the world or what? Makes me furious although I don't really know why. I feel better now, perhaps a trip to the shrink might be in order.......

Heath Ledger apparently became addicted to crack during the filming of "Brokeback Mountain".

I,m sure we will hear lots of stories over the coming days on Heath ledgers demise, wether they are true or false the media cares only for the headline value. Look at the way the media circus invaded Tassie when those two blokes got stuck in a coal mine for a week, total saturation 24/7 untill they where out, then that clown Koshy chasing the ambulance down the road. Meanwhile on the other side of the world how many children had died in that week through starvation.  And how many of us here really give a shit ???!!!

the media..isn't it a wonderful thing, I believe less than half of what I read and even less of what I hear and see. I don't watch TV or listen to a radio so I'm spared thankfully. I didn't see broke arse mountain as I'm a little homophobic but I did like the Knight's Tale movie. The media never let anyone rest in peace and you will always only hear what they think fit and even then it is sensationalized beyond truths. I love a good bitch session  ;D

Doc, do ya really think you're homophobic? Do you literally run and hide from gays? Do you avoid the paint department at home centers, or have someone else get flowers for the misses so you won't run into gays? I think not, and the term hohmphobic is a lot of bullshit( Texas USA term). The term is meant to LABEL anyone who fails to embrace the gay culture and all.
Hell, many of us here are motocross racers, and fail to embrace the culture of say, bungee-jumping, if so are we then "bungeephobic" .Sorry, but that movie was rammed( no pun intended) up the ass(arse) of everyone-to enlighten them or whatever-and was spoon fed several awards. This is not to take away from anyone's work in the film, but the way it was rallied was indicative of the whole media's bullshit. My wife has a few gay male friends, the particular blokes are a rather depressing bunch to be around for me-so she visits once in a while without me.
I feel for the family of Mr Ledger, as I would in any loss for a family-it is tragic-yet I agree that we still have kids dying every day here in the US( violence)-not to mention allied forces in good ol' Iraq getting picked off like sitting ducks every day without exception. If you disagree with any part of this you are" maicojamesphobic". ;D ;D ;D ;D

I'll take a different tack on this. Although I couldn't be called a fan of Heath Ledger, I felt a tinge of sorrow at his death. This is yet another example of the end result of our societies fixation with celebrity. Young people like Ledger are thrown into the world of adoration, huge amounts of money and non stop attention from the press and fans. They lose every aspect of a 'normal' life and are expected to be anything the media spin doctors want them to be. Every ounce of their normal life is replaced with a fantasy land full of arse lickers, yes men and more money and power than their social skills can handle. They are never educated in the pschycological skills needed to handle these pressures and more often than not they head off the rails. Ben Cousins, Andrew Johns, Amy Winehouse, Britney Spears and now Heath Ledger are examples of what the pressure of celebrity can do to a person. I know I'd hate to be under the day in, day out media scrutiny these people are put under. It's easy to sit back and call them wankers for the way they behave but how would we react if it was us being constantly bombarded with Paparazzi? Sadly Ledger couldn't handle the pressure and I find his death a sad refection on modern celebrity worship and the pressure these kids are under.

The whole thing is somewhat news-worthy because it's a premature and unexpected death of a celebrity. It's like Princess Di, in that they're in everyone's psyche and we take them for granted - not like Frank Sinatra or Mother Theresa, and not like if one of the Crusty Demons or Jackass boys was killed.

Regardless of what you think/thought of Ledger, and regardless of the circumstances, there's now a young girl without a father, two parents who have the misfortune to outlive their offspring, etc. No matter how you look at this, it's not a good thing.
My missus kinda knew Ledger from their school days and one of my work-mates was good mates with his dad - he was a real person, with all of the good and bad and human that goes with it. To dismiss his death as irrelevant or annoying because he once got paid to pretend he was a gay cowboy, is pretty bizarre.

Sure, maybe it's not worthy of the blanket media coverage its been getting, but...

In more general terms, I reckon this society deals with death in weird ways, that I don't understand (which is not to say that I have a better way).

Interesting but how many other persone died of drug overdoses that day ? how many other famlies split up ? how many other people died ?

ITs justa warm story for the news, i only read it here som im only guessing what happened, but like every one, we saw him in a movie ? so how does that give them the right to feel sad or make comment ? just like the guy that died down your road this morning, unless you new him or lived with him, going through all the Morning of somone you once so in a movie is a little bit lame.

My cat was in a lot of pictures, she died last month, i was very sad, i had her for 15 years, but unless you know her, it was kinda ridiclulous to say anything other than, you felt sorry for me at my loss.  Same here i reckon your sad for those close to him that lost someone close, but not him, you didnt know him.

cutting to the chase - Somthing happened, he died, dont forget to eat your green or this could happen to you.

i need to watch the news more.......................

If Ledger had never made it big in the States you wouldn't of heard to much about his death. The Aussie media think they have a golden ticket when its to do with fame and the USA. jimson

Heath Ledger? I never met the bloke - my only impressions are from what I've seen in interviews with him on the telly.
Funny how media saturation gives us such firm views on who he supposedly was.
I'll bet his friends (his real lifetime mates and close circle) know an entirely different Heath Ledger to the one we think we know.

His Dad made a statement for the Media and that's what put it into perspective for me.
Mr Ledger is an ordinary West Aussie who's just lost his son; dead at 28.
I'm sure he was proud of his boy as we Dads are.
I imagine a beer and a barbeque at the Ledger house would be the same as anywhere else in OZ; no matter how much money he was worth.

The latest is he died of alcohol poisoning....too many cock sucking cowboys  :D .
Just as a side note slash bitch that i air regularly, i marvel at the skills of a brick layer or builder or motorcycle manufacturer for what they produce is nothing less than astounding. I also marvel at the attention and money associated with people who go around pretending to be someone else for others entertainment. The bricklayer or builder or similar should be earning the big bucks, not those self righteous soft cocked a' holes. Ahh thats better, now where did i put that dummy?
Heath...RIP( Im sure you were a closet vmxer )
