What fluid do you put in the power steering? Never had to top it up yet.
-
ATF same as some use in there forks.
-
What type of car and engine? as there are quite a few different types now.

On the cap of the reservoir the oil spec will be noted, but most important, if you have to top it up by 50ml (as a guess) then you have a 50ml leak somewhere in the system.

Nissan x-trail. I looked on the cap but it just says: "Use power steering fluid". It's just on the minimum and I suspect it hasn't been youched in 130,000 k's.
-
Is being youched a good or bad thing? :)
-
Youched is similar to being touched but it hurts 8)

Someone told me the other day that you can use 50 weight engine oil and it works better and swells the seals. Dunno? he owned a wrecking yard so he would have some car knowledge.

Being a "wrecker" i think its car no knowledge and can just about f@#k every car in the yard under 16 y/old :P

If it's just on the minimun leave it alone.

Im taking a guess that its a T30 X-Trail as the T31 has an electic power steering system fitted.
We recommend that you use DEXRON-III ATF in that system.
-
Like bahnzy said. Plus some Honda ,Mitsubishi models and various others use special fluid not ATF
also that wrecker would sell a few power steering units I reckon.
cheers pancho.
-
Thanks guys. Dexron III ATF it is.

Yeah, I was a bit dubious, he was reffering to older cars. But I figured I'd just keep pouring the proper stuff in anyway.
