Just went to the post office and was told that anything going out of Oz to the U.S. and selected other international destinations will now incur a $9 handling fee due to the tightening of security. If it is under something like 469 grams or some odd ball amount (500gms would be too easy) there is no charge.
And to be a smart arse I am going to blame the extra security on all those Anglo-Saxon males that are obviously trying to blow everyone up :P

yes, I have read about the $9 fee Brad. I don't hold a zac of faith or belief in anything remotely related to the US governement or it's puppet masters. Also of interest maybe this news item.

for anyone who buys their parts overseas it seems the writing is on the wall. This sort of big brother shit really gets me going >:( Maybe the Aussie retailers who are complaining should lift their bloody game! The service I get for my money o/s in most instances leaves Australia alternatives for dead.

Someone heard he had stall at the fleamarkets in Auckland
turned out he heard it all wrong, it was really
Samoan bed linen
-
The big retailers proposed media campaign is a crock of shite, on-line sales make up a mere 3% of total retail sales.

I think you will find that the 469 grams is around 1 pound.
The yanks still work in pounds remember.
As far as I can tell it’s a US only charge and it’s charged on everything going into the States, not necessarily charged on what goes out of Australia.
9 bucks per parcel is pretty bloody steep considering they would have been scanning everything anyway for years. I find it hard to believe scanning parcels is any harder than it was 5 years ago.
Considering they have been trying to ban mini bikes and bring in some sort of accountability for imports (I guess mainly aimed at Chinese shit) for a while now, which may have turned out too difficult for them so this is an easier way to attack imports.
It’s easy to bag the local retailer but I think you will find that they are getting screwed themselves. I sell some accessories myself and I can tell you the margins aren’t that big and I see some of the same stuff on e-bay selling cheaper than I can pick up wholesale.
So it’s either the importer that’s screwing the retailer or it’s the US companies selling to US warehouses cheaper than they are selling to the Aussie importers.

OK GMC I,me looking for a chain guard for a 86 husky. Would you , or Harvey Norman , have one of them in stock or do I have to go online to the only place on earth that sells them.
By buying this chainguard online am I cutting Harvey Norman,s throat or affecting your sales ? If you , or Harvey Norman , do have this item in stock then I will buy it from you because you are local.
Retailers might have a reason to complain but I DO have a reason because I am the one who will be affected should this " GST everything bought online " proposal become a reality.
This argument is relevant to all restorers of older bikes of course not just me.
Cheers Mike
Ps I am using you and Harvey as an example ONLY and have no complaints about either of you , if by some chance either of you have a chain guard then pm me and I will not go on line to buy it. :)

Get this the genius national Govt here paid out investors in a failed finance company $1.775 billion or $405.00 for every man woman and kid in the country. Noboby seems to toubled by this, yet when treaty of Waitangi settlements are made to the Maoris theres always a big stink ???
This payout is more than all the treaty payouts combined so far and is given to a failed buisnessman and fat cat investors ::)
Treaty payments are honouring an agreement and you can be pretty sure any treaty payments made the money stays on shore .
-
Apparantly, capt Bligh has thrown away 2.5 billion in the last year with failed government projects....theres only 4.2 million QLDers (much to Nathan's digust...cept when he's buying parts up here)...she must be gonna start growing money trees.

To make matters worse the staff were all given large raises & promised big bonuses to stay for a year, if they left there would be no way to get more money out of investors & no more kickbacks to the pollies
