Driving along Samford Rd yesterday, thought I heard a familiar drone from the old days. Then a loud induction howl, and a bike shot past me, going faster than the skinny thing should. It's been a long time since I've seen a Metralla. They were great to ride, lacked the accelleration of the Jap twins, but had a faster top end. And much less complicated.

Hi,
The Metrallas are great little bikes - a few of the Club Bultaco guys have them. I took mine for a short ride up to West Head last weekend and had a blast. I even met a Spanish / Australian bloke named Mario at Church Point who remembered seeing them race on the streets in Barcelona when he was a kid!
Here's a photo of a couple of them at one of the Bultaco rallies - mine is the one on the right.

Here's a link to the Rally where there's a few of them:

I remember from my school days 2 of the teachers had them used to walk past them on my way to science almost every day!

A timely reminder. ;D
My lawyer's got one of these in pieces in his shed and keeps saying that "one day" he wants my help to get it together. 8)
About $350.00 an hour should do........... ;)

Don't forget to photocopy the manual at $2 a sheet either ;) The Metrella is nice and love the TSS's.

I have a metralla thats been sitting in the shed for a while.Mostly complete, except for exaust/wirring,possibly other small bits and peices. The motor is in one lump and has compresion and spark.I was thinking of moving it on in one peice or selling the bits separatley. It has cost me a fair bit of money over the years,so I wont be giving it away.p

I'd ride all of those, particularly the 2nd one ... That a nice chassis right there ;D

Agreed, first one is Santi Herrero's works monocoque not sure if there was any other disc valve Ossa?

They were experimenting with a water cooled version when he died.

That GP OSSA had a 44mm carbie on a 70ishmm bore and they wanted a 50mm but could not get one :o. a powerband the width of a bee dick springs to mind ::)

opps wrong one , no one needs to see Jess with her cossy up her butt
(http://www.bikeexif.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ossa-motorcycle.jpg)
Interesting bike shame they didnt know they needed the rider about 12 ich further forward
-
Nothing wrong with that "cossie up the butt" shot......
I used to ride to work with Bob 'motor mouth' Johnson on a Matralla from Redcliffe to the 'Gabba every day for a year or so back in the late 70's. He could ride the little bugger too, but as you say-very tall gearing.
-
Know of three Ossa being built as a copy of this USA dealer bike

Next year my turn to have a go
Mick do you do the ossa rear ducks head seat in f/glass
Cheers

He still prefered the air cooled engine though.

Bultaco did some lateral thinking as well

Thank God finally found some Montesa GP history. A second to Hailwood on the 250/6 Honda wasn't bad

250 horizontal rotary disc valve twin. Water cooled cylinders and air colled heads. What the ??? ???
-
Montynut google Bultaco Monjuic (or montjuic?),most of those later "bully" race motors were dutch creations, whichever factory paid the race team, thats what they would call them, aermacchi also had a twin w/cooled barrels, aircooled radial finned heads, 2 stroke developed by the villa brothers too, :P
sorry VMX60,don't do that seat,(ossa engineering in the states?)

Was all Jan Thiel's work the 50cc Bully was just a rebadged Jamathi
-
what would be the motivation for a watercooled cylinder and air cooled head? Even getting the head gasket to seal when the temperature difference would be so great would seem difficult

Were they the same as the Kreidler 50s and 80s?
