what's with the bracing and holes......I get it - multi shock mount points :D
-
Arm looks like a modified A arm
-
its the bracing that has me interested, particularly the top of the swingarm forming top shock mount, never know when you are going to trip over something factory in Japan.
-
Another variation of Orange County choppers spider bike - The Black Dildo Bike. :P :P :P
Looks like its had the chop where the bottom shock mount is.
It is a strange bit of arm though marc

I would think Bill's on the money what are the forks like that came out of it do they go past the axle about 75mm or less.

I remember reading that bracing the A arm was pretty common- and recommended by the "Experts" back in the day to reduce flex.
-
Yeah but not something Joe average Japanese racer would do in the day..... and this work was done nicely

mark, went to the Puhoi tavern for a jar today and while at the puhoi cheese factory saw one of those....lol Baz

Thought you were about to tell me I had discovered a super rare works frame in a Japanese junk yard, it must happen soon. ;)
-
Id like to be wrong but i dont think much stuff made it back to Japan ??? most of the stuff from Europe ended up in the English channel along with the luftwaffe ;D
Back to your frame though who knows ??? could be a factory special ;) any numbers on the frame , that arm looks like steel protoype of that pds arm on your 125C .
Your in the hot seat ;) what was the Japanese domestic mx scene like in the mid to late 70s ? ive seen videos of earlier times in japan, it was amping in the late 60s early 70s :)

is there any way of identifying the metal used in the mod?
mild steel with the shit drilled out of it says to me a backyard bob style mod.
but if it's chromemoly or similar? then perhaps you do have something rare indeed...
-
chrome moly was used on Suzuki production frames .....think it was around 1976

Too true Bill, another Swingarm of the Gods perhaps. Though nothing I have ever seen is as cool as the swingarm on my 125C.
I like that the zig zag drilled out bracing that also forms the inside shock mount .... someone gave it some thought.... hell for $80 i may just buy it. The frame with all the bracing would look good chromed. ;)

That cut and weld in the mid-section is interesting. It reminds me a bit of the first banana bend type swingarms on maicos etc . It doesn't look backyard at all.
-
It's a nice job but I wouldn't pick it as factory.
For a factory job I'd expect the swingarm to be bent then braced rather than cut and welded and I can't see any point to the plating around the shock mounts. I'd think the original triangulated tube would be stronger and lighter.
Still an interesting frame though

I decided to grab it, cheap enough and looks like a bit of VMX history. have enough bits lying about to build it into bike.
