Title: What's on this weekend?
Post by: TT on November 26, 2010, 06:54:35 pm
I was supposed to be on my way to Castella by now, but as usual, work got in the way.  >:(

I reckon I can stilll get Sunday/Monday off, does anyone know of any sort of motorsport event within say 600k of the Barossa S.A. that's happening this Sunday?

Western to mid Victoria is about as far East as I could get I reckon, but I'll consider anything.

Thanks fellas. I probably won't get away until late tomorrow or very early Sunday morning.
Mildura speedway might be worth a look.  I haven't been to a speedway event for years. 8)

Sounds like a plan.  ;D
Is Des Woody still at Sunset Cycles?
I'll give him a buzz in the morning and see what the go is.

Yes Hoony, I'll take photos. Gotta make the trip tax deductible somehow.  :D

Well........... I got there just in time to be too late..............   :-[
Long story, but I wa saying goodbye to the family when my young fella asked, "What's that puddle, Dad?"

Ah, crap. The old DR was leaking fuel. From the coupling that links the 2 tanks. Got it sorted and was on the way by about 11.00.
I underestimated how much rain they had over there as well and it so muddy in places that I had to go off the track to get through.
End result was that I got to Mildura at about 4.30pm.   ::)

Still, it was nice to spend a couple of days on a bike.

Great shot Tony. You would have encountered some very wet weather if you'd come all the way to Castella.

Great to see a Dr Big again. I got to an orange version many years ago at a Suzuki model launch at Oran Park. Barry Sheene was there that day and threw a leg over the Doctor.
Anyone going to the Leigh Adams testimonial dinner/ Speedway in Mildura early January?

So how much do they charge you to drive on those South Aust. tollways these days.
 ;D

It would have been a horrible trip riding through Vic. last weekend, unless you were riding a jet ski

Five seconds of fame for our little town  :P  :P

The Striker Crushing and Screening Australian Supermoto Championships will be held this Saturday and Sunday at the Kostecki Motorplex in Collie, WA.

Competitors from around Australia and Europe will begin practice on Friday afternoon at the 1.2km circuit, which has had a 400m dirt section added plus some tight-radius bitumen corners to suit the technical style of supermoto racing.

The final touches were made to the circuit this week.

Championship hosts the Supermoto Club of WA describe the circuit as world class.

Headlining the list of competitors is reigning Australian supermoto champion Italian Davide Gozzini, who finished second in the World Supermoto Championships last weekend on his 747 Motorsport TM450SMX.

Gozzini, who will be riding a locally-prepared Franzone TM450SMX, will be joined by British supermoto ace Christian Iddon, aboard a Crushing and Mining Equipment KTM450SMR.

Both overseas riders have brought with them some trick components to fit to locally-prepared bikes which they will be racing.

Eastern States competitors include Bo Laing on a Yamaha YZ450 and Cameron Stronach on a Kawasaki KX450.

The best from the west include Liam Robertson on a YZ450 and Brett Stewart on a TM450SMR.

About 40 competitors have entered.

The circuit has had 100m of bitumen added to it that created another four corners, taking the total number of corners per lap to 15

The dirt section is made from a hard-packed road-base material and has three table-top jumps and two small kickers, plus bermed corners and undulating terrain.

The Supermoto Club of WA acknowleges the generous support and sponsorship of B&J Catalano; Robbo's Contracting; Coates Hire; Coalcliff Hire; PV & BJ Anderson; Healthway WA; Fulton Hogan; Anthony Garic and Phil Thomson in the construction of the track and help with hosting the championships.

Full catering and a bar will be available at the circuit.

Practice starts around noon on Friday. Racing on Saturday and Sunday starts around 10am
