Title: Bultaco Metisse
Post by: farmer58za on November 12, 2010, 03:44:57 pm
I have just acquired a Bultaco metisse, model 11. It's complete but the Bultaco motor is long gone and it has been replaced with a Villiers 1H motor. Any ideas where I could get an original motor?
regards
David

I presume yours is a Bultaco version as opposed to a genuine Rickman version? I'm not hip to all things Bultaco but I have owned one of these little waterpipe wonders and have been through the process myself but sold it before I fitted a Triumph engine after failing to locate a proper Bully motor. 4 speed Bultaco stuff is getting pretty hard to find but I've been told a good base to build from is a Campero or early Sherpa S 200cc engine or something similar. You'll have more luck finding a 4sp 250 in the US than here or SA but you never know. What about placing an ad on Mark Swapmeet? It's worked for me in the past so you never know what might show up. Have you done some detective work to try and locate its original engine? Do some asking around in the area the bike came from, it may still be laying in a shed.

The genuine 4 speed 250 engine is a centre port motor, not a side port. Works rider Andy Roberton raced a Metisse with a villiers starmaker engine with success and they look great in the frame.

Have been looking for a motor and tank myself as I also have a rolling frame, A few have come up on the dreaded ebay over the last couple of years but have gone for a lot dollars.

Hmmm.....
I'll try Mark's swapmeet. That's usually a good source.

I think the bike came out of Zimbabwe (Rhodesia). It's likely that the Bul motor gave up the ghost and the Villiers was what was at hand as a replacement.

The search continues..
