The Suzuki Full Floater rear suspension is was well received back in the day, a favorite of many.
Suzuki had the stop using it because of patient infringement

whats this about?

It was Bolger who stopped Suzuki using the full floater design until they paid him out

Joe Bolger - he sued Kawasaki over the UniTrac, but not the Full Floater, as far as I know. He was the first guy to come up with a rising-rate long travel suspension. I thought Suzuki killed the full-floater because of the space it took up and the wear on the linkages. I'd like to know the story on Joe Bolger and Suzuki if he did sue them.

Joe Bolger was a pretty smart operator who'd been developing all sorts of trick suspension and chassis designs throughout the sixties and seventies. Here's the Bolger OSSA MAR we imported few years ago . It gives you an idea of an early version of his rising rate linkage idea circa 1975. Also shown is another version of his rising rate suspension. From what I can work out, the main thing that thwarted Joes suspension was a poor quality of the shock absorbers of the era. As well as the trials bike kit, Bolger produced a motocross kit to suit the OSSA Phantom. In my eye, Joe's up there with Harry Hindall and Kelvin Franks as a member of a small group of sadly overlooked pioneer motocross innovators.

I met and got to listen to Joe Bolger talk about the old daze a couple years ago at a big SMOG convention. He talked about the road racers using his ideas. His story about this was the Japenese got around his patents because they were applying technology to single shock set-ups. He said "Who knew we would have single shock bikes back then...."
