Title: 175 top end on YZ125G?
Post by: oldmxracer on November 03, 2010, 09:58:50 am
Hello my Australian friends. Been snooping/researching an IT175 cylinder/1980 YZ125 combo. What year IT cylinder best for a 125G lower end? Use the 125 carb and pipe? Would use the bike for MX age class racing....

IT175 G or H (80-81) top end is what you need, use the IT carb but choose whichever pipe suits your riding style. The "G" 125 pipe is quite peaky on the 175.

Why CG said.
The earlier IT-D/E/F top ends won't fit (different motor), and the later IT175J/K top end will fit but have a centre exhaust port which doesn't work with the YZ frame.

FWIW, there's a very nice IT175G/YZ125G hybrid that has been turning up to Heaven events, and its quick.
