gday, just wondering if the 81 490 barrell is the same as the 82? the ports looked bigger on the 82 at a quick glance?

I have '81 & '82 Maico 490 cylinders and the only difference that I could see, last time I looked , was that the '82 had 2 additional boost ports above the inlet port. I think that you you could cut these into the '81 cylinder if you wanted to .

What Brendan said plus the inlet spigot on the 82 is a larger diameter. The elbow can easily be removed by splitting it GENTLY with a sharp cold chisel just enough to expand the metal but make sure you have the opposite side sitting squarely on something solid (I use a hardwood block.
Never measured the port heights but some say the 82 port timing is better than the 81? The way I ride I wouldn't know, lol!
The spigot can be machined to std size or to save the hassles mount the carb using a length of radiator hose or similar.
