Title: TM125 steering head bolt
Post by: Doc on January 14, 2008, 11:35:36 pm
I'm looking for 2 steering head bolts for a TM125/250/400 or RL250. It's the aluminium bolt that screws into the steering stem. 1 would get me out of trouble as I can share it between bikes if need be. Thanks

Cyclegod you're a champion! It's for the bike below. I got the tank and TS kit pipe yesterday and both are very useful thanks. The pipe is already on the TS. In the process of constucting an airbox as I really don't go for (exposed) pods..trying to keep it as much a TS as possible excepting the top end, gearbox internals and ignition. That's all TM. I have to split the bugger to fix the kickstart shaft and swap clusters but that isn't a biggy..just a matter of finding time as usual ::)

PS..yes the bars are bent but I want some chrome replacements and they are not so easy or cheap to find..a sign of the times when chome steel bars are worth more to buy than swish alloy renthal type  ::)

this is my next bike..a 75 TM250 that will run RM/PE suspension and TS/TM combination engine to run pre 78. The frames been heavily modded already at the upper rear mounts so I don't feel bad about using a mixed bag to build it.  ;)

Thanks a lot Bill, I personally like the looks of the TS125 over the TM's but only the '71 R model. It should go just as hard as a TM but I'm still a little wary of using the 19" front. Is there any reasoning behind the 21 inch front wheels?? I've a 21" I can fit but I'll give both a go and see what the difference is. Just need to get a piston kit and rebore, tidy up a couple of little items and she'll be as good as it gets..it comes in well under my $500 cap too  ;D

Cyclegod, that filter would be the ducks nuts but as always it depends on the price  :-\ how much would it cost for you to part with it?

SOLD!! that'll save me more than 2 hours work if I figure on charging myself $20 an hour. Doc logic 8) Thanks Again CG..you've probably saved the world from the butt ugliest airfilter box ever created! :D

Bill, here's another pic or 2. There's still quite a bit I can do (without spending much) but essentially I can now class it as a complete bike again less the chain and steering head bolt that's in the mail  ;D I don't like the sidecovers but until TM covers come along they'll do the job  ;)

Your little TS/TM 125 is like a little brother to my 250 version. I'm taking it to CD5 so you ought to bring yours along Doc.

looks cool firko  :) is that a Ts frame you have used
Title: Re: TM125 steering head bolt

Oldfart...It's a '71 TM frame I found in a skip bin years ago. The engine is a '75 TS, side covers from an RMS, Front guard a cut down 'Tony D' Preston Petty opaque, rear a genuine RH opaque, TS rear wheel, TM front, TM forks, Pacifico plastic tank, Interam handlebars, Taiwanese Gunnar Gasser throttle, No Name grips, Curnutt shocks in the photo (now replaced by Works Performance) and a Circle F pipe that's not in the photo as it was enroute from the USA at the time. Everything on the bike was either rooted and restored, donated or swapped for.
If I added the Works Shocks and Circle F pipe to the original $100 cost, the bike now owes about $500 and is a reasonably competitive little bike. It'll be at CD5 as a klub Kevlar Kourtesy bike.

Firko..I was seriously thinking about taking the just TS125 to CD-5. It would be a little different having the 125S motor, a TM250 front end and the regulation Hi-Perf TS185 shocks but the rest, excepting the bent bars, will remain basically unchanged. I love the TM but the TS is more about me and my bottom of the the barrel cheapies  :P

Thanks CG..I'll be bolting it straight up I assure you!  :)

What kind of shape are the TM barrels? (bore size, fins bent, exhaust threads stripped etc) and how much?

Cyclegod, I got the steering head bolt today thanks! you've been elevated in status from 'Champion' to 'Legend'

Holeshot Buddy, don't suppose you have any more early TS125 or TS100/90 rollers up there?  :)

I suppose its better than being upgraded from a 'Champion' to an 'NGK'  ;D ;D ;D

You will have noticed that I included the large washer as well...

PS I just won another used kit pipe.. ;D ;D

looks different to the first kit pipe Mick. Seems to kick up more like the TM pipe  :-\

I just found this nice little '72 TS125 on ebay item 290197861594 or
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Suzuki-TS125-Duster-Suzuki-TS-125-Duster-1972-NOS-72-TS125_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6027QQihZ019QQitemZ290197861594QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW

For as nice a resto as it is, it doesn't look right..
probably because it isn't..
wrong front guard fitted and they never came with duel rate springs on the back..tsk tsk  :P

speaking anal..I don't suppose anyone would have one of the stickers suzuki stuck on the rear guards of some models. It was circular about 3 inch dia with a green winners leafy rond reaf thingy and clear background. Written within the sticker was Suzuki World 125cc MX Champion followed by the years. I'd love to get my hands on one but I've not seen another since about '77  :-\

you did! :o I paid $15 and they list for close to $30..the fuel/time/hassle to drive over to the shop and get would be much the same as the $2.50 postage and I got it 2 days after I won it..i waited near a month for a part that was in stock down south and they tried to blame the Melbourne Cup :-\ this I accepted as the last time I'd go to the local dealer for anymore parts  ;)

mmm..yup..I do like the orange regardless of shade CG. Might be why Can-Am's appeal to me and shock horror! even the orange Harley MX'ers. This is what I was based my mini replica on  ;)

Just don't tune it to run like my red/orange 1971 Cyclone................. it was well a weird handful and I was only 16.... >:(   ::)   Do remember my Dad saying once (and he was not into bikes just like the rest of my family) Should call that a Navel
you know sort of orange, got to have a thick skin to try to ride it  cause it trying to peel yours off and you end up with no usable seed in side ya!!!!! ??? ;)
