I guessed 84 on the way the disc is at the front but I am not an expert on these or much else. ;)

-
ok so do the stickers say that but the 85 doesnt have the same disc can I tell from #'s
-
Look at the engine covers
-
Oh ok so definetly 85 then would it be worth $50 needs a seat and I don't know what the motor is like.
-
Whats the engine and frame number? that will 100% tell you what it is.
-
Its an '84.
You buying or selling? 'cause I'm buying if you only want $50!
-
sweet no I cant really sell my mate is a scrap metal bloke this was heading for the junk yard so I said don't do that I will do that up would be a little bit rude to sell it for more than I paid and I don't want to sell it for $50. ;)
-

Check the shrouds. That is the give away as they are that shape for the one year only.
-
Cool if I do bring myself to sell I will let you know. ;)
probably do it up a racer get on the track. :)
-
OK, well it may well be an '84 but is has an 85 motor in it because it has the ATAC inspription on the barrel and not on the power valve cover, it also has '85 swingarm, defenitely an '84 tank on it however.
also has blue shock spring which is right for 85-87, 84 models had red shock springs.

Yes! I looked at the shrouds and front disc as they are '84. But you are right too. Its the 84/85 model ::)
Makes more sense that its an '85 with some '84 parts on it.
-
so it is a bit of a bastard thing what should I do with it is it pre 85 eligable or not.
I will put up the frame and motor numbers. :)

-
I checked the frame F so it is 85 with some 84 gear I would swap the tank for 85 and 84 front end for 85. ;)
-
I'll buy the 84 front if you wanna move it on I stiffed one of the legs on mine
-
So did I buy a lemon. ???
yeah but I would need a replacement caps it had a few small pits between the trees unless I sell the whole bike or swap for a suzuki.
-
Chrome condition isn't an issue I only need base parts and for $50 you can't go wrong I'll give you 100 for the forks
-
I will have a look at it tommorow it owes me nothing there is a heap of goo on the water pump area did these rot like the 125's did?
-
A CR250 MOTOCROSS BIKE FOR $50 YOU CANT COMPLAIN!!!! Its not a XL100 or something so basically i reckon you got a very good bargain.
You can easily make 10X that if you part it out on ebay, look at all the guys that do it, they arent silly.
And there you go, capps is offering $100 for the forks, you could get $30 for mag cover, $50 for the clutch cover, $75 for the trans etc etc, it all adds up quickly and before you know it you got several hundred in your pocket to throw towards your PE's or what ever. ! I just bought a PE transmission set in Canada for $50 i think, plus a kick starter shaft for about $25 a CDI for $50 plus more bits and before i knew it i had bought over $200 US in engine parts and few other things. I maybe could have bought a complete motor here for $300 but i didnt really care because i wanted good condition low hour parts and overseas is where you find them.
So if you want to make make money parting it out is the way to go, otherwise if you wanna do it up, since you already paid only $50 for it which is just lunch money these days, you almost got a free bike and you have got a headstart already and can aford to spend $1000 on it. Its not like you have paid $600 for it already and still gonna need to spend another $1000 on it.
-
I am only joking about the $50 for that much I could throw petrol on it and set it on fire but no way I will do that I would have paid more for it our factory is supposed to be done now but I might drive past tommorow and see then no worries how many bikes I get I will just buy a seat and decent pipe and it is complete. :)
It was going to get scrapped by my mate so it is saved. :)

I am actually a bit suprised by this bike it isn't as bad as it looks I mean it was obviously owned by some one who was good at putting go fast stickers on and not much else. ;)
I am a bit worried though did these rot in the water pump area there are screws missing in the crank cases and high temp red has been used on the water cover maybe as a gasket?
I need a seat and I will buy a new or good second hand crank case/water pump cover.

Sadly Michael they did and very bad corrosion too.
-
I will check it out on the weekend hopefully it isn't to bad it hasn't got any water in it maybe it might be ok who knows.
The guys at the local wreckers told me not to get a cr of that era for that reason if it is buggered what is the fix a bit of welding?
-
checked the water pump area it is a bit :-\ but not majorly bad I will try and get another right hand side complete casing.
-
gtting a good case will be hard as they all have that problem.
if it is repairable it can be welded or devcon can be used. if devcon has been used on it before then welding is not an option.
-
look up yamaha of troy -also a honda dealer i bought a sidecover/waterpump housing not long back
-
Hi guys thanks for the suggestions.
1 odd thing is the exhaust it has Answer racing on it but it is not a correct fit and pretty beat up if I could identify it maybe some one could have it fixed and use it probably not many answer pipes??
-
Another question the mag cover is plastic is that stock on an 85 cr250?

Yes Frosty they are plastic.
-
I checked out a few things on it today some one tried to stop the pegs folding with a bit of an arc weld nothing I can't fix atleast they haven't welded any shafts I think I will buy a dg pipe but on ebay they are only listed as 84 or 86 doesn't seem to be any 85 models I suspect 86 would fit.
