Ray , who lives in a small town near me, used to be an official for the Bankstown - Wiley Park Club at Nepean and took these photos .
He doesn't remember exactly what year in the Eighties and who all the riders were, I,ll have a look through them and post a few more.
Anyone got any idea of the year and riders ??

Interesting shots Al, I stopped going to the 6 hours in the early 80's and this track looks very different to what I remember. Looks like just after the sweeper it turns infield onto the Speedway track and the wins its way back up the top. At first glance it looks like a few shots were reversed, but they're not.
Cheers

Yeah , Steve
The track layout had me scratching me head a bit too, it wasn't as I remembered it but after looking through the rest of the photos I worked it out a bit , the lad on # 15 is wearing a NSW Yamaha Dealer Team shirt , I was wondering who it was , got me suspicions.

Where's mr Burkett when you need him, he rode in a heap of them but he may have hung up the leathers by this stage.
Ian?

Hey guys I have asked this before but didn't get an answer, can any one remember.
"The pics of Nepean brought back memory's of a 6 hour there in about 77, I think. Our team rode a lowered VB250 but did no good as we were too hard on brakes but I witnessed one of the funniest things I have ever seen.
There was a guy on what I remember was an American Bell framed Honda with an XL motor absolutely creaming everyone when all of a sudden there was a lot of smoke and a funny noise coming back into the pits. The Honda engine had broken the top out of the crankcases and the head and barrel was going up and down but still running some how. It was my only go at Nepean but what a great event.
Cheers Stan."

Thanks Foss, I thought I had been dreaming it for the last 30 years or so. Can you remember who was riding it?
Regards Stan.

Nahh, mate
Can't remember the lad , but the clatter and smoke coming from that Honda and the bloody thing still running I've never forgotten, the only thing holding the lot together must have been the camchain !!!

I have a distinct feeling that # 31 in the top photo could be Edgar Phipps and I think Steve Gall's one of the riders on #15. I should know more but the years have eaten up too many brain cells :-[.
-
From the info in Scaysies book, I think it is 85 and the winners that year were Peter Goddard & John Foreman on a CR500 with Paul Caslick & Glen Bell second on a YZ490, that year the race was held on a lengthened track.
It only went for another few years.

Gall & Dack rode the TT600 in 85, Peter Goddard & John Foreman won (no 1) myself is the 4th rider back in the first pic just poking my head out (no 21). Myself & brother Noel rode 4 of them from 81 - 85 and had entered for the 86 one on a YZ250s when it was cancelled. Only dnf'd once. Awsome race wish it was on again.

Thanks for your input Tony and I hope things are going well for Noel.
You guy's rode against the Harts for most of those years, I talk to Geoff regularly and I'm trying to talk him into having a ride again.

Also rode the '77 event on a VB250 also ran out of brakes :-[ It was our first 6hr. The following year we entered a Can Am and led the 250 class until the chamber slit below the foot peg. It was a bloody hard race to be competitive in.
I don't remember seeing the said Honda with the active cylinder but do remember the 4T Honda that was showing everyone a clear view of its rear tyre until it let go big time. As I remember it blew up basically as it past the pits to a collective gasp of everyone. I can not remember if it was in the race or during practice?
