Title: RM 400T
Post by: maxi81 on October 17, 2010, 03:02:16 pm
Got some issues starting a RM 400T. Has been sitting around for years. Got it started around 6 months ago, tried to start it the other day and not having luck. It's got spark, though when I take the plug out its got a tiny bit of fuel on it. Would this cause any issues???

Any input would be great.

It will be stale fuel. Take carby off, fully strip it and clean it out, reassemble/refit, add fresh fuel. Also clean out fuel tap.

I had a similar issue at CD 7 ......Tm Bill layed it on LHS for a few secs and it started no problems.

You can't pussy foot around kicking these things over or they will kick back  :)

If it's been laying around for some time .....clean carb - also tank- then add new fuel  -  if you still have issues it might be time to replace crank seals

carb could have become gunged-up from old fuel.
pull off the carburettor, clean it all out, blow out everthing. Oh and replace the fuel filter too...

My guess is stale fuel also but check the airfilter while you're at it. After sitting 'a few years' it's bound to be well past it's use-by and possibly crumbling, the engine maybe ingesting these small pieces. This can, in some instances, lead to problems such as holding the reed petals open causing hard starting.
