My old Maico has been to every Classic Dirt so I can't see why it'll miss this one. Here she is at the Coffs Nats with Daryl Lewis on board and in Kamp Kevlar at CD3. Thanks for the kind words but she isn't as pretty up close. She wears a patina of 20 years of vintage racing but it suits her.

Bit concerned theres no chain wear strip on swingarm, as I havent got a manual to confirm this, hoping somebody might be able to enlighten me, also will a sprocket gauard have to be fitted for scrutineering as it appears that none have been previously fitted to this bike in past (see top photo)

There were never any chain wear strips on the swingarm. Wear the grooves with pride! I've had my Maico for 38 years and the chain hasn't worn through the swingarm yet!
I've got an alloy swingarm on my square barrel Maico now so I've got an old plastic chopping board ready to cut up to make a wear strip. You will need a sprocket cover however. It's fairly simple to fashion something out of aluminium. If I get a chance I'll take a photo of mine tomorrow and post it.

Ross...Here's the sprocket cover I made back in the seventies that has never failed scrutineering. It's made from 2mm aluminium and bolted top and bottom through two 6mm holes drilled into the cases. You don't need to have the fancy slots I drilled and filed into mine. I was being a bit of a lair back then!
Ross, do you know the name of the Victorian bloke who originally vintage raced your bike? If it's the same bike I think it is it's a good thing. If I'm right, the bike won the pre 70/250 class at the Nats one year. It looks familiar.

Geezas that bottom end loks very similar to my old maicoletta.   Are the any good in the boxes ?  i had trouble if i remember getting some pin back in the selector and it never changed gears again.

for some reason pre 80 maico seem to be good looking bikes, as in very balanced to the eye,  Still you cant beat the Maico-mobil for style ninja turtle would be proud

Sorry Firko
I read past this question, i'm told by another forum member it was raced by a Neil Gates who worked for Jack Penngally and was sponsored by stackers, and also won a victorian title some years back, thats about all i know about it at this point but if you know any other history of it, i would like to know as this bike I intend will keep its originality and looks as long as I dont f--k it
