Sorry people but i need something good to read on here and hopefully this thread will lead to some good storys.
So come on spill ya beans what are you building or finishing off to race in 2011, there must be some good stuff out there nearly ready to go. ?
My list.
1st bike.
YZ 250 G this thing is going to get a complete makeover including frame re-paint, new rims, re-plated spokes, engine strip down and check up, spend some hours on the tank and then fit new stickers to it, fresh rubber front and rear, re-gas rear shock and fit a fat prick spring to it. That should do this one as it is a fairly tidy bike anyway, it will end up a very clean standard looking race bike.

2nd bike.
YZ 250 89 model, i bought this thing in January 2010 and have only got the frame finished, all bolts re-plated, bottom end of engine is fresh, still need to finish painting the swingarm, new rims, re-plate spokes, fresh rubber front and rear, freshen up top end, some porting to barrel as it is shocking, re-assemble and fit all new plastics which is sitting in cupboard and all the usual finishing off required.

I can`t wait to race this thing as it has an Ohlins 360 top end on it and should really get up and go, this year i only managed to do 1 race meeting which is just bullshit. Plan is to be at every Viper round in 2011 no matter what is going on at work, that shit will still be there on the Monday.

I hope you do Hilly as it would be good to catch up at the races again, you might have to put the fire in Hoony`s belly again too.

Having been tied down for the last few years with weekend work, I've got big plans for my "comeback" next year. ;)
As long as I find out dates early enough to keep the weekends free, I'd like to do all the Classic Scramble Club rounds, the Nats and CD8 on my Husky Mag 250CR. I'm also hoping to get to all Vic Vinduros (Harrow's already locked in at least) and a couple of NSW vinduros on my super-reliable Montesa 250. :D :D :D :D
If I can find something weird at a good price, I'd also like to get a Euro trials bike of some sort to bring to CD8 as well.
My wife was keen for me to do Finke on the Husky, but as much as I love the desert, the more I thought about it, the more I realised that it would cost more to do that one event than all the Vinduros. ::)

Excuse my ignorance, but what is an Ohlins 360 top end ? I thought that Ohlins only did suspension.
-
Back in the Very late 80's early 90's Ohlins though Yamaha (the parent company at the time) marketed a 360cc kit for YZ250's to help them keep up with the rest of the Jap bikes. ;)
the kit from memory had a piston, barrell and head and well as a small metronome to tune them. :D
-
Very interesting. So Yamaha would have used Ohlins in a similar way to, Honda with Mugen .
-
sort of but i as far as i know it was a one only. the reason was the old YZ490 had been retired and they needed a big bore for the open class. the kits come up on Ebay from time to time.
-
Just repainted the sidecar, looks good and also we have a new engine and hopefully have sorted the ignition, so here's to a new year, it worked out that Vaughn and l had not finished a meeting for a year due to break downs, and lve just bought a new CR250 79 model with a bucket load of goodies on it
-
Hey DJ,are you coming out to race this season???,or are you still busy building the YZ Mosque?? ;D
-
The painters holding him up apparantly!! :D ;D :D ;D :D ;D
-
I believe the construction spend has doubled the GDP of Wanganui in 2010....
-
The jobless numbers went down aswell.....apparantly the mayor of Taupo will be opening it in some sort off grand ceremony....word has it that special guests from Auckland and Brisbane will be flown in at the organisers expence!!!....a little birdy told me that a statue to commemorate the event will be unvailed. ;)

Spot on Hoony,
the kit also uses a longer conrod in the 250 crank with only a small amount of case machining required, back in the day the racers with the right contacts got hold of these kits and left our 250`s for dead. As they say ya can`t beat cubes, can`t wait to try it. Peter.
YZ 360 kit.

I like it. Especially with the era seat cover. Not that its necessarily good taste but its of the era which is what I like about it.
-
Yep i don`t know what to do with that cover 090, i`m thinking it`s gotta go. That`s how the bike came from the states.

At the risk of being attacked by the other residents at the old folks home, I really like both of these bikes. The C&J Honda has all of the hot rod cred and immaculate finish I love in a bike and the YZ360 is a gem made even sweeter by that trick top end, I even like the sick* seat graphics.
I had an 89 YZ250 for a while and I remember it was a gem, despite some power valve linkage problems from memory.
*Is that correct nu speak? I want to get it right!

'Fully sick ' Firko. Remember, grammar not required. Even 'full sick' works.

Leave it. I would. Captures the era.
The C and J is awesome.

I'm more than certain I won't be racing motocross any time soon but will be putting some guest riders on board a couple of my bikes for the Nats and some other big meets in 2011. It'll be the same story for the vintage dirt track Nats and other bigger meets. I really hope to get out and chuck a few skids on all of the below at some vintage dirt track club days and do a few loops at Shoey and Ribbos vinduros during the year too. I'm especially looking forward to riding the big Benelli....wait 'til you see her....sooooo trick! Total overkill.
The main motocross development however is going into the B&S TM400 and Cheney as serious class contenders with the right rider/s on board.
*Cheney Yamaha 360.....pre '70 500 motocross
*Hindall Yamaha 250... 'pre 70 250 motocross
*Boyd and Stellings TM400....pre 75 motocross
*Hindall 500 Triumph....CD8/HBBB fun bike and club day pre 70 500 bike.
*Trackmaster Benelli 650 flat tracker....HBBB and dirt track club day fun machine.
*Yamaha IT175L....Vinduro funbike.

Full sick is about ten years old. Dunno what came after it because I don't want to.
F#$ked if I know what I'm racing next year - either events or bikes!
CrossedUp2 and I are hatching a plan to go to the Nationals. If that comes off, then I guess I'll fix the YZ125X's gearbox, swap cranks in the DT125A racer and dust off the pre-70 DT1.
The VR250 project has regained momentum, but cash flow is limited, so I'm not making big promises about having it ready for any particular event. Will drag the MX250A down to the Nats if the Monty isn't ready in time.
But really, I've got far more enthusiasm for Vinduros and modern Pony Express type events ATM.
For the Vinduros, the trusty old '84 KDX200 needs an engine rebuild, but is otherwise ready to go again. For the modern stuff, the '04 TM125 is the weapon of choice, although I may drag the late 90s KDX200 out for a blat too.

yep, don't touch that bike, it may not be to everyone's taste, but it's a piece of history.
As for me, I'll be transferring the PE175 engine into the rm125t frame with 250 forks/triples and airshox. The yz125f has had the coils rewound (again ::) ) so it's ready to go, and the yz125c/x isn't too far off either. Then there's the BSA but that'll be towards the end of the year if I'm lucky.
And the 97 KTM300 I picked up off Tony Tent Peg should be a goer by Christmas, hopefully there'll be a pre-2000 class up here next year.

i didn't know about the longer rod, do you need to off set the crankpin (stroke it) as well then ?
also i didn't get a bite with my comments .....Bugger.

Sorry Hoony,
i must be getting slower in the head, i did read your comments and didn`t even twig you were hanging shite and being a smartarse. Oh well looks like the crankcase jokes are back on again.
In regard to the longer conrod it fits the 250 crank and uses a YZ 400 F piston etc, the barrel is taller to accomodate this.
-
You can still get the Ohlins 360 kits from Noleen (or at least part of it) and i reckon i see a 360 kit every 2 months on ebay.

Guys my 2 cents worth,
I bought a new ISDE YZ250WR in 1992 I was lucky enough to pick up a O.S riders new bike when the 6day finished. I raced it for a year in State X Country and Enduro X rounds, and in 1993 Jason Cater put me onto to Cramer regarding an Ohlins 360 kit.
Had it installed ready for the 1993 season the kit made good power but was hard to jet and if I didnt run Avgas it would ping (something to keep in mind) Anyway in 1994 i bought a new WR360 Husky the real deal.

good to hear the comments on the ohlins kit,, i was tempted to do my yz250 89 model at the start of this year in the research that i found there was talk of changing the pipe to sort out the jetting???

DEVO? Did you start singing 'Whip it' every time it was said?

G`day Hoony,
i have only got as far as finishing the bottom end freshen up, i have all the other parts ready to bolt on but just can`t find the time at the moment to complete it.
As per normal work is just taking up all the play time which sucks. Peter.
