OK, I know it isn't as good as the 'good old days'…
But who is going to conquer the mountain on Sunday? :o
-
Captain Kaos and lowndes would have to be in with a chance, and I wouldn't rule out Greg Murphy as I recon he will give it his best shot.
Having said that with 163 lap ahead of them, a bit of weather thrown in for good luck it's anyones race.
HOLDENS
-
That year lowndes got the plastic bag stuck in the front and overheated I wasn't very happy but if that happens to him now I wont mind.
-
Watching the Moto GP would be much better than watching a car race ;D ;D

Between ads and pace cars, I'm sure you'll manage to keep across both very easily... ;)
Last year wasn't quite as bad, but the year before I think the pace car finished 7th... ::)
-
I would love to say Murphy/Simonsen being a kiwi but im thinking Lowndes/Skaife are looking pretty strong.
cheers Dale.
-
Stick two bob on Van Gisbergen/McIntyre for a podium... ;)
-
If your going up on the mountain correct pronunciation is " Baffust" or if your from a small trianglular shaped southern state "Bath-hurst". Though I am told the fun police have clamped down up there?
-
They say one carton per person per day, the party poopers!
Dale.
-
I'll be happy if they shut Grant Denyer up. Last year's commentary effort was a shocker
-
Bath-hurst? I reckon it'll be a Holden.......and if not, it'll be a Ford :(
The good old days were much more exciting me thinks
-
For the trifecta,
Team Vodafone - Lowndes & Skaife
Jim Beam racing - Courtney & Luff
Holden Racing Team - Tander & McConville
Top 10 shootout, 1 to 10
Wincup Holden
Tander Holden
Lowndes Holden
Courtney Ford
Winterbottom Ford
Bright Holden
S.Richards Ford
T.Kelly Holden
W.Davidson Holden
P.Dumbrell Holden
-
HOLDEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Murphy with HOLDEN of course!!

When a variety of cars are allowed to race I will become interested again

Absolutley :) currently boring taxis that you cant even tell apart ::)
-
Been to a modern mx ?
-
your right Bill we should enter a Morris Oxford Taxi from Bombay
-
Andrew Fisher in the "Jesus all about life" Ute will be a force to reckon with I Think ;D
-
Bathurst is a sad empty shell of what it was. I could not be bothered watching.
-
All of the above....I have little interest these days, it's all so bloody dull. Still, we're having our annual BBQ/race party to watch. I reckon I'll spend more time in the pool instead of in front of the box.
-
I used to be mad keen in the days when the cars were road models with min. mods. Now days the cars are all the same but some have Holden badges and some have Ford badges, and where do the get their diffs and gearboxes from?
Not from Ford or Holden! cheers pancho.
-
BORING, I'll watch the first and last half hours, that'll do me.
-
Been to a modern mx ?
Yep! and that's why I like the old gear :D

:D Damn straight !
-
Good Luck to all the West Aussie boys taking on the mountain tomorrow, if I wasn't going riding I'd be watching for sure.
-
Such a shame - about the only differences these days are the body panels and the heads :'( :'(
Bring back the golden days when we had all sorts of odd stuff there like Camaros and Volvos :o :o
-
I can remember a fair few boring old days when it was a sea of A9X's or Ford Sierra's.
-
and yet, just a few years earlier, I can vividly recall the 327/350 Monaro's, the GT Falcon's, the XU-1's, Alfa 1750's, Valiant Pacer, Cooper-S's, Cortina's, Fiat's, a gaggle of Datto 1600's and I think a Studebaker - that made Bathurst a thrilling and exciting spectacle.
-
hope you got up early enough to watch the classic races. Jim Richards can still peddle a car around all right!
I'd be happy if they just raced these cars all day and left the new ones in the shed.
-
The big xa gt sedan with Lianne Tander driving won led from the start I wish they had have shown more of the grid but only 7 laps so they were focusing on leader Jim Richards was giving it to it.
Have to love the old fords especially 77 1 2 the xa-xc ford coupe is one of the best looking cars about in that era.
Go Winterbottom.
-
You are all missing the point, Holden Versus ford and that's what the fans are paying for ......."You know what I mean "
Group C was when it all went arse up.

Stu apart from a badge how different are they really ???
-
There not.....same brakes, same suspension, same diff, gearbox, engine.....bla, bla, bla.
-
Colour shceme and drivers ;D It's the little changes that count these days ie fuel consumption - splitters - plastic bags ( frosty ) - motors are different Crockashit and you should know that being a mechanic :o
The reason for cars to be as they are is to allow each and every team to compete at the same level ......go back to 1997 and 1998 what a fark up that was. 1998 brought it back to Holden and ford.
-
I read a piece in Muscle Car magazine where they reported on a survey that someone had done that found that nearly 70% of the fans of touring car racing are extremely dissatisfied with the current Cochrane run set up. They felt that in a bid for parity and turning it into a TV friendly format, they've sucked the soul out of it. I'm sitting out in the sun typing this on my sweeties lap top while everyone else is in the house, half asleep in front of the telly. Not one of the 14 people here are currently looking at the race on the telly......and that's the reason we're here.
The Bathurst race is now as dull as dogshit and I blame the quest for perfect parity for turning into the most boring sport on telly other than cricket. I've said it before but I reckon that by using the current Ute Series rules on the sedans would bring back the spectacular racing and being cheaper would draw more competitors and corporate backing into the division.
My cousing does the body and chassis prep on the Jack Elsegoods Coopers ute and he reckons that doing that would be a winner ....the Holden v Ford thing would remain but the cars would be as close toy what we drive as possible. I've been for a ride around the block in Elsegoods ute and it's tame enough to drive to Melbourne with a bike in the back.

Yeah, actually that's pretty much wide of the mark this time around Firko. That was one hard, drag-em-out classic battle, for all the failures of the formula or the admin, that's been a great, tough day of racing on the Mountain. ;)
-
Mark , I bet those Half a sleep you spoke of .... where eyes wide open in the last hour.
-
V8 supercars may have it's faults (lack of car variety) but the racing is closer than it's ever been and nobody want's to see cars winning by 6 laps or more like they used to back in the 70s and 80s.
-
so who actually won the bloody thing ???
-
Yeah, actually that's pretty much wide of the mark this time around Firko
I disagree...Sure the last 40 minutes had a bit of drama but overall our BBQ guests and I still thought it was a godawful bore. (notwithstanding the exciting last few laps and orchestrated finish). We flicked it over to the F1 once Bathurst had ended and it was a yawnfest as well. We got some fun from the Comm Games diving on ch1 though. At last we'd found something even more boring than the car races. A fitting end to a fun day ;D.
-
:DTee-hee, fair call :D
-
at least they got to race, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and what a race, best Bathurst in years, sorry Firko, I watch the whole race from start to finish for the first time in 15 years, yes i agree with you for the past, but this years race was great.
Cheers Worms.
now where's that race club?
-
so who actually won the bloody thing ???
Lownds'y and Skaife yea Lownds'y had to miss the Thunda X in Qld to win Bathurst again

I watched the opening lap with Coulthard's frigthening trip through the gravel trap. YIKES he is one lucky fellow.
BIG ONE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KC8oSFNj9XQ)
-
yeah, I didn't watch much of the race or see that prang till about lap 20 something when I walked past the tv :o It was huge! Pretty sure that one will be splashed around sports news the world for a few days ;)
-
I think that next year I won't bother to ask… ;D

Jeezus im glad i wasn't the poor sod paying the fare in that taxi ;D
-
On ya Lowndes. Although not a Holden supporter. They may be very similar cars, but one has a Holden badge and one a Ford badge and that will do me.
So someone winning by 2,3,4 laps like the "old days" made it heaps better? Always watched it and always will. Love the onboard action.
-
Well i just got back from Bar thirst for the 12th time after a 9hr drive and i must say that they just dont do it for me anymore. (more like the last few years)
4 wheels with badges.....after seeing Coulthard's roll-over and the crowd laughing at all the body panels flying off like a bad porno movie and left with a shell/cage.
Even channel 7's coverage was a joke with a delay at the track and was frustrating watching a dice in real life and then watching the TV next to the fence...waiting waiting waiting....ok 7 secs later...waiting.
I cant remember that at the track before(maybe, maybe not)
I just read that the viewers are really pissed off with 7 for adding in more ads because there was only 4 safety car issues and the telecast ran for 12 laps longer than "live"
The V8's are turning into "nepitism" racing as its someones brother,or father.
The muscle car masters were more fun to watch as they are REAL cars that i/others can relate to.
This poor fella clipped the damp ripple strip in the first session on thursday morning at mcphillamy and drifted sideways trying to save it but couldn't.
I heard that someone donated the front panels off his HQ and the tafe boys straightened the rails to get it ready for his first race on friday and the crowd cheered him on.

The 7 sec delay is standard stuff but still doesn't stop things like THIS (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CgBvCplFrBI) happening (snigger snigger).
The nepatism is understandable as plenty of parents of current drivers had to mortage the family home to kick jnr's career on, then when your dad is someone like Jim Richards or Frank Lowndes no surprise that they get to the top. Plenty of drivers like Lee Holdsworth have made it under their own steam.

Oh, Lozza, that is just MAGIC. I suppose that is why it is call 'Dropping the Magic' in radio circles. ;D ;D ;D

I was really disappointed that Lee Holdsworth and GRM didn't win the thing. So very, very close… it was a bloody good drive - damn pit lane speedgun!!!!! >:(

Forgot how fast the Moffat Styvo's PP RX-7's were ;D

Sundays race was great, really enjoyed it! The cars have definitely lost there character but I would rather watch Sundays race than watch Brock drive around 3 laps in front
One thing I find funny is the whole Ford V Holden thing. I wonder how many die hard Holden fans realise that the only road car that the VE race car has any relationship to is a EL Falcon, because thats what the VE & FG race cars are based on ;D
How many Holden parts are actually on the VE...I can't find more than 6
I'm not buying into the Ford vs holden thing, i couldn't care less either way, its just that the Holden is a more glaring example. at least the ford uses a Ford block and Ford geometry
