medical research has shown a sudden increase of parkinsons disease in the Christchurch area.  Some people have become very worried about the increase in the shakes, some men are very happy

Not good news
Twenty-seven miners are unaccounted for after an explosion in a coal mine on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island.

The explosion occurred at Pike River Coal's underground mine about 50 kilometres north-east of the town of Greymouth about 4:30pm (local time).

Two miners have emerged from the processing plant in Atarau and have been taken to hospital where they are being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

They told rescuers that three of their colleagues were also making their way to the surface.

It has truly been a fork**g crap year, started with the passing of my mate Magoo, one of the true good bastards, followed by the Quake in Christchurch and now the death of 29 guys on the West Coast. After a recent visit there and interaction between myself and some families affected, this has really had an impact on me.
I can't wait for 2011 to roll around.
This crappy year puts all lifes trivial events into perspective, including verbal confrontations with some of you Forum guys.
Over and Out.

True Bill. Shows underground mining is still a very dangerous occupation, I wonder if profits and expediency were being put before lives.

no offence to you Bill,

I guess having had the experience of the old man being laid out for 3 days in the front room after McManaway Transport drowned him and Maritime NZ covered it up because the whole industry is too retarded to caculate how to sail a vessel safely.

I am still a little touchy.

Amen Bill, this sort of crap shouldn't happen in this day and age.I have a feeling the inquest findings will be scathing.
But at the end of the day,the damage is done.

No matter whose "fault" it is, it's an incredibly sad situation. Thirty years ago while backpacking in Mexico I just happened to be in the silver area of Taxco when a mining disaster occured in an underground silver mine. A lot of miners were killed and I well remember the sadness that overcame the town with people openly crying as they walked the streets. Businesses closed down while the whole town went into deep mourning. It was very contageous getting caught up in the grief of total strangers. I imagine the same sadness exists in Greymouth today.

No offence taken Marc  :) Sorry about your old man  :( i hate cover ups and beuracratic buck passing  >:( The Greymouth situation is horrible and you have to feel for the families of those poor souls .
