Title: Some cool stuff at Nabiac
Post by: Shaun G on September 25, 2010, 08:10:46 am
While visiting the museum at Nabiac last weekend these caught my eye.

Prize money results from a meeting at Tamworth in the early sixties contains some famous names.

And I wonder why we don't see more 750/4's at dirt track meetings these days  ;D

That looks like Les Burdus on the Honda 4 and it's my cousin Kenny on 21.

Its actually Paul Giles on the Honda 4, Sean Giles's father.
My brother Carl took a Suzuki 500 Cobra out on the track with Paul later in the day.
Just a bit of trivia.

on the rare occasions that i saw Paul Giles ride i was amazed at his ability on the dirt! I found it strange that he didn't do more of it! cheers pancho.

If no21 is a Maico, then it probably isn't Kenny, he rode a Bully around that time.
He used 21 and his Nephew Joel still uses it on his sidecar.

For mine I reckon the guy on the 750/4 looks more like a Scaysbrook (Jim) at a WDMCC club day way back when. In the mid to late sixtys WDMCC in the hundreds of financial members and usued to have a few club days at Nepean that attracted as many riders (members) as an open meeting. I think the first time I ever saw Gilsey ride was at Nepean on on his R60 or 70 BM road bike and was blown away by how fast he punted that thing around the dirt track with Bakerlite Tyres.

I did see him ride a 750/4 at Nepean and he was quick on that as well but I just dont think that is him in this shot.

As always I will stand corrected

Les confirmed that it isn't him, I sent the photo to Carlos who said it was Paul Giles.
I'm sure it'll be solved eventually Col.

Please pardon my ignorance on this but is R.Caslick a relation to Paul.

And

I guess that K.Davies is Keith, father of Anthony?

And

G.Watson is George, father of Chris?

Please let me know if I am wrong or if you can identify any other famous "short circuit" racers of the past.

Cheers
Shaun

When I first saw the pic of the honda 4 my first thought was like colmoody 'thats Jim Scaysbrook', but with later forum input I thought 'well there you go', .... maybe someone could ask Jim? cheers pancho.
