Thanks montynut i take it they are both your bikes if so engine/frame numbers would be useful to try and fill in gaps between numbers of my bikes or pm me with details as i am trying to build a database of the VE/VF/VG monts so we know how many have survived and where they are,do not want addresses for obvious reasons just where in the world they are.Am i asking to much and perhaps someone has done this already would be nice to know.

VF414 Frame and Eng No's 66MO 2504 in West Cornwall. By the way, any idea what the (F) after the Eng No means?
-
Hi Dinsdale
Thanks for the details when you say F do you mean the F after the 414 if so that means it is a 1980 bike (VE meant 1979/VG 1981).
There is no F after the engine number or should'nt be but you have got me interested. ;) :P
-
Factory ;)
-
My engine numbers also have an F stamped at the end.
-
My VF's have the 'f' on the end. Maybe Hoony's right..... ;)
-
Just checked my 250VE/VF's and 414VE/VG's and none of them have a letter stamped after the engine number, perhaps its something that montesa did just for the 414VF's? if this is the case it would only be for the 414VF as my 250VF's do not have it.
maybe it was the phantom F stamper ;D ;D.
It would be interesting to find out why but i think maybe we will never know or can someone else shed light on it.

Checked again after seeing Jareds photo and i still can not see any marks like that after the engine number on any of my bikes even when using a magnifying glass.
Sandy/Montynut have yours got that mark?

Very nice Ross :P
-
None of mine have the 'F' after the engine number.
Ross all three of your bikes seem to have the front brake backing plate with the actuating arm facing backwards as the VB series with the cable keep on the backing plate. My VF250 has the arm pointing forward with the cable keep on the brake torque arm. Is that the original brake setup on all your bikes?
Montesa seemed to change that set up regularly. I know my VF250 front brake is much better than the VB front brake. Just wondering if that may be the reason?
-
That's how they come from the factory Greg. I did run the front brake set up the other way around using the arm off my H7 for a few years. I can't say I noticed a huge difference. If I use good shoes and keep everything clean they seem to pull up (sorta). ;)
-
Mine(250VF's and 414VG's) all have the arm pointing forward with cable keep on the brake torque arm but my 414VE and 250VE have the arm facing backwards with the cable keep on the brake backing plate all as from the factory.Don't know about the 414VF as i do not have one(not yet anyway)so did they change between the 250VF and the 414VF (re forward and backwards facing brake arms?).

Update on numbers.
Disappointing is the word it seems that in today's society people are scared to mention what bikes they have for fear of some d---head finding out and relieving them of them.Since i started this thread in September the only numbers i have are the ones on here plus about six others they must be out there its just that people are not aware they are still wanted,in fact i came across a 414Vg white tank joby by accident just before Christmas when i was collecting something else i tried to buy it but the guy was not interested (and yes i do have first go at it when he is selling). But i see that i am not the only one to ask for numbers of 414 montesa bikes and probably wont be the last still doesn't hurt to keep trying.
-
Well...... Being mostly an Australian site, you're not going to get a lot of numbers. Only 21 ve/vf 414's came to Oz. Add about another 4 Vg's then subtract the ones that ended up in the bin and it doesn't leave many left over. Take into account that the sane people that own them keep away from the forum plus the fact that over the three years that they were produced less than 1000 were made, then you're probably lucky to get the numbers from here, that you did.
-
Its not just this site that i tried to find out from UK/Spain/USA/Holland were other countries i tried but i have to say i got more response from this one.Just thought i would let the people that replied know and thanks.

I have the ghost of a 670 orange Cappra burnt into my heart. (No part number)
