Just curious. We have well over 1500 members, but I don't think 1500 race. So, who are we all? What do we really get from VMX? Vote above and let's see.

I think there needs to be a few more choices. What about the die hard Dirt Track racers, Vintage Enduro and Trials nuts? I'm as obsessed about riding (competing on) my old dirt bikes as anyone, but don't fit any of the answers.
-
Fair point. When I say VMX I mean the whole scene, which is usually known by that collective term. But I've changed it to be more generic. However, when I say Vintage or Vintage Racing, I mean riding or racing old dirtbikes made before 1985. And that includes Vinduro, Trials, Speedway and so on.

Good survey Graeme but I can't find a category to fit into. I love the old bikes. Collect and restore the bikes, but rarely ride one comes close but I ride my bikes often but I just don't race them. I think there are others in my same boat so can I suggest changing the word ride for race?
-
I'm with Firko, ride as often as can, and the occasional race ( Vinduro for me ). For me, its about the bikes and the people more than the racing.

I was mainly trying to find out how much the OzVMX members race. So, I've changed that option about restoring to read more to suit people who collect and restore and maybe ride, but don't race much.

You need a class that says......"I love hoarding old Maicos but I'm too scared to start 'em in case they go bang"
or something there of......

FUN and occassionally ride would win this one

I spoke to the sidecar lads last sunday at practise and have come to the conclusion that we should onle RACE 3 to 4 times per year (on the old bikes) and have a similar ammount of HBBC and CD type of shows or we will be turning our valuable works of art into piles od scrap fit for the tip.
We are already spending time and dollars welding and repairing them too much, not to mention more dollars looking for those elusive HP.

1700 members but only 123 voters?

Pfft.. I know of at least one guy using 2 or 3 different logins so he can comment on things whilst hiding his true identity. He doesn't hide it well though! A few more of those and the true numbers will be skewed a bit!

Sorry Alison the Ricky is still in kitset form, like a few of my bikes. But it is pre unit... bloody unit construction will never catch on.

Hi Marc, have you heard of or have any idea if a Rickman type frame is about to suit a W1SA 650 Kawasaki? Having a bit of an issue with lack of replies from the various frame manufacturers. Tim754

Tim...Seeing the Kawasaki W1 650 is so similar to the BSA A65 I'd reckon a Rickman frame to suit an A50/A65 BSA would be pretty close. My mate Mike Middleton owns THE one shown below. Unfortunately they supposedly only made 5 or 6 back in the day but a bloke like you who's a bit handy with a hammer and an oxy torch could make up mounts to fit it in a Triumph Metisse frame. Finding one for the right price is the problem.

Try a Wasp solo, that might do the trick.
