Title: SWM 347 TF1....ahhh,gotcha!
Post by: Canam370 on September 15, 2010, 10:56:50 pm: I have to share my glee.....I've just picked up a '79 347 TF1 and I'm stoked! Frame #AUS000001. :o I've wanted an SWM for ages. Its a pretty complete project but I'll be looking for some parts (anyone out there who might be able to help? Please?). Handily enough it follows my Rotax engined Canams so no surprises with the engine. Its great to find a bike to re-ignite the fire!

I tried to buy one when I was a youngen, but they couldn't supply. You lucky bugger.

Frame #1 but I'll put up the whole # and see if anyone can help with the history. As near as can be determined it's a 79 model. Orange frame,orange /black tank and I think it has the opaque plastics (well,it will have!) Thanks for the offer of help on parts - I will be back on that.

Great to see so many people interested in your project, by the way if you take a close look at my id pic, it's the front cover of an origional 'CATALOGO PARTI DI RICAMBIO SERIE TF/1' parts catalogue sourced for me by the late great John Hall, from the Germay Importer of SWM Motorcycles Peter Schroder ( I think the spelling is correct ) who just happened to be the then President of the CTE, the FIM's Enduro sub committee. If you would like me to scan the catalogue and send you a copy just let me know, ok.

This is the only 79-80 TF1 I know of that has come to OZ.
Mike it wont sound the like mine, its not a rotary valve motor.
Paul do you have the 82 ADB test of the 347?

That's right Mike, the smaller engines are rotary disc and these are case reed and also carry a bit more flywheel weight. My 370 Canam has a nice power spread and it'll be interesting to see if there is any difference in the delivery.

Just a update pic. The project is still moving along. Had the fork sliders repaired now so I just need to get them painted along with a few other bits and 'Thunderbirds are go!'. Now, I just have to beat the chamber into submission, make a brake rod and cables, a wiring loom, decals, make footpeg assemblies, split the atom etc........... Well, it should be ready for HBBB at least...maybe even for 3 Bridges.
The condition of the finish of the engine is a pain but the thing has been rebuilt and not fired a shot. I hate to completely strip an engine just for paint. The stator cover is getting some fresh colour and I might try find some engine spray close in colour to give the rest a quick jam job :-\. One comment I got was the effect is the same as having a new suit but wearing old shoes. ;D
