Old KX125 (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=220665311714&ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT)
80 or 81 model?
I bought it with the intention of combining it with my KDX175 and making a better KDX175, but have already started thinking of different options...
-
Another head-ache I'd be thinking...... :'(
-
I'd say you just bought a bargain - even if it is GREEN :o :o
-
Hey Nathan, I think I have a gearbox for one of those.
-
Kurt, I think I love you. ;D
Will call tomorrow.
-
Nathan,
I have a T&T test of the '81 125's, yours if you want.......sorry, but it doesn't make for very good reading on the KX. :(
-
Yeah, I know they're not great bikes - slow and the suspension doesn't work all that well (and the frames break, although I assume that T&T didn't know that back then).
Having said that: Yes, I'd love to see the test.
Kurt, have lost your phone number. Can you please send me a message with it?
-
Congrats Nathan,
I saw that buy it now for ... I just dont have the head space or garage space as i am moving to a smaller house...
Cheers Brett
-
They did mention frame breakages on the '80 models.
P.M. me your address and I'll pop it in the mail.
-
So, I got it today. Not as scary as I thought: Its all there exept the side covers & kick start lever.
Sleeved barrel is on a small oversize.
All of the rocker bearings and the shock are trashed - this is the scariest bit.
Forks are excellent.
Seat recently recovered.
Plastics are painted.
Etc.
In other news, the KDX175 frame that also turned up today is a cracker, with excellent side panel and rear guard. This has re-sparked my interest in the KDX175, and killed off the idea of combining it with te KX125.
So the KX is another project bike... ::) (GMC: I know, I know....).
-
I've got a A5 125 project bike Nathan....and have been collecting bits as I go along, will be a next year resto, they are cool bikes the KX'es, when I get it finished I want to spank that Vandy chappy's arse ;D...shouldnt be too hard as he has Mainline on his team.....go team green......maybe we need to start it back up.....you know, now that team Montessa is making a comeback....you can lead the NSW team, TMBill the NZed team and I can lead the Quinnsland team....well have to get together to form stratagies!!!

-
..shouldnt be too hard as he has Mainline on his team.....
Lucky I'm not sensitive about my 'restrained' riding style ;D
I'd be checking your Walker frame though if I was you, 'someone' might saw halfway through one of the legs while you're in the back of the van trying to find where you've spat your dentures this time ;D
-
Restrained?.....restrained......a seatbelt restrains you, dont tell me.....your being polite arent you?....I wouldnt mind you "restraining "your dutch mate though!!...bloody cow cockies....

Marc are you familliar with mr pot and mr kettle ;)

Marc are you familliar with mr pot and mr kettle ;)
Sorry Bill,
I think it would be more appropriate if it was Mr Pot and Mrs Kettle.
And be careful as Mrs Kettle gets a bit flustered when you mention the Black⦠;)

Yeah a lot of Mr Pot used to come from the Taupo area 8)

And I'm back to Plan A - build a KX125/KDX175 hybrid.
The KX frame has a flogged out rocker hole (and it would be a total prick to repair, as the hole is obscured by other frame tubes, and someone has had a crappy go at fixing it before now). Its also previously broken on the front down tube, and that repair is structurally sound but ugly as sin.
The KX crank is also damaged on the drive end.
Shock will probably be KDX with the KX's cannister.
So... KX forks and swing arm into the good KDX175 frame. Not sure whether to make it a 125 or a 175 though. My heart says 125, but my head points out that while Vinduros are non-competitive and have no classes, the sensible thing is to make it a 175.
I'll be keeping all of the 'left over' bits, so bth bikes can be returned to stock if someone finds the motivation to do so.
-
Yep!
stick to vinduro Nathan.
we don't want a repeat of last time now do we? :D

He'd just remembered he had forgotten to check his tire pressures. ;D ;D ;D
-
That couldn't possibly have been me!
For a start, the rider is wearing vaguely current (at the time) riding gear, and has an apparently new bike.
But the real reason is that he fell off while at the front of the pack.
-
I don't care what he says. That is definitely Nathan in that picture and I am saving that photo for future use ;)
