Title: RM CDI on a PE
Post by: suzuki27 on September 02, 2010, 05:15:11 pm
Has anyone got any ideas about running an RM 250 T CDI on a PE 250 Z motor.
I am having trouble finding a PE 250 CDI- plenty of 175's around.
Any one tried it? Or know what to expect?

I ran a PE175T CDI on a PE250T & it work great made the PE motor rev like a mx motor, put the 250 CDI back on & motor when back to being a std PE so switched back to the 175 CDI. I should say it also had a 36 flat slide & RM250T pipe which all helped.

It wont work, just ask oldfart. To work properly you would also need the RM stator which means no more lights.

There is a PE250 CDI on ebay now.

If you have a non working PE250 CDI then im interested in it.

the CDI unit? Why won't it work? Are you certain? Truly, I think it WOULD work.
If he means the stator/rotor, no they won't go as the taper is different.

Simple fix - use the 175 rotor/stator/CDI set.

not too sure about facts on running a Rm250 T CDI on a PE 250 Z .......but I can tell you this from experience By putting a RM 250  T cdi unit on a PE 250   X - it  WILL NOT MAKE IT REV HARDER ....
Luke, you have hit it on the nail  ;)

Well the PE250 Z uses same CDI as PE250 X, so if the RM250 CDI does nothing for the PE250 X, then is gonna do nothing for the PE250Z aswell. PE250 T uses different CDI to X/Z at least up till half way through the T model run anyway.

Just go with what Luke says and change the mounting slots. Stacks of 175 stuff out there and it will rev quicker withe the lighter flywheel.

Only going by what oldfart told me ;) I too was gonna go the RM250 CDI route.

Thanks men, I will go the PE 175 electrics route. Looking forward to getting the PE 250 motor in the RM 250 T frame. I reckon the PE engine will make for a more tractable- ( easier to ride) -motocrosser.
