Title: HEAVEN at Canowindra
Post by: Graeme M on August 23, 2010, 10:04:38 pm
OK, I know that the Canberra round hasn't happened yet, but I reckon it's time to start pushing the Canowindra weekend. I went to the inaugural Canowindra event last year and it was a blast. I haven't heard anything about this year's event, but if it's even half as goods as the one last year it'll be a pearler. Located at the local showgrounds, it's well catered, got great facilities, is ably supported by the town, and just sheer good fun.

It's down for the weekend of October 2/3 so it's not that far off now. If you live within travelling distance, you GOTTA do this one. Just to whet the appetite, here's some photos from 2009 (thanks Greg)

This was a real stand-out event last year, and this year is only going to be better.

I'm not 100% sure that I'll make it - but rest assured that if I don't, its for a damn good reason!

hey guys and girls,
anyone who has any sugestions of any changes for this year canowindra event please let me know. willing to take anything on board and see what can be done. the only thing i ask is that there is no rubbish talk on this thread as there is on others.
the even will be taking place at the same venue Canowindra Showground and unfortunatly does not include a loop around the golf course.  ;D
as there was last year, there will be a great meal available on the saturday night so make sure when it comes time to enter, place your orders. there also will be the canteen running on both days with drinks, snacks and probably a snag sanga.
the rounds will be the same as last year with canowindra cup events on the saturday and heaven rounds on the sunday. we are going to try and start a little earlier on saurday so we can fit more rounds in. i will be in touch with the commitee to confirm details and will let everyone know asap.
as for accomodation, you are again more than welcome to camp on the grounds, but if you would like to stay in a hotel or motel, plan your stay very soon. accomodation is rare around this time of year. will post some numbers of accomodation shortly.
p.s. the local rspca have warned that there may be some chance of a turtle or two crossing the track this year again. so please keep an eye out......
see you all at canberra.

cheers greg

Hey Greg how about adding a Pre '90 class  ;D ;D ;D ;D (I say, that's a joke son)

Seriously though this event last year was a ripper and I reckon you don't need to change a thing.

It should be remembered that Canowindra was the last race meeting that we got to see our mate Magoo in action. And he was on fire winning almost everything he entered.

Maybe it would be good for the club to do something for Ann and the kids as well as Bruce's memory.

Cheers

was this meeting the last heaven meeting that magoo rode in? if so i know it`s very short notice but how about the heaven club put a flyer together and hand it out at the penrith/heaven charity weekend.i think you may flush out some of bruce`s mates.

Well, Canberra is now done and dusted ( or mudded with ice thrown in after a very frosty Sunday morning ) so it is now time to start thinking about Canowindra.
Great weekend to be had by all. When else do you get to ride in the middle of a showground? Sure to be green this year after all the rain. Meal available on Saturday night, canteen operating on Saturday and Sunday, camping available from Friday to Monday morning. Very vinatge friendly track on offer with some guys even running dirt track tyres last year. So don't miss out on what promises to be a great weekend both socially and racing wise. Huge thanks to Greg up front for all his effort in making this event happen.
If you require any further info, don't hesitate to contact me. Cheers.

Yep, and it's not far off at all. Just 3 weeks to go. I can't say again how good this event is, just a fun time.

It's the sort of event where it doesn't matter if you prefer MX, grasstrack or dirt track - you can just let rip and enjoy. And the age races on Saturday are brilliant - an opportunity to get in amongst it with other guys and girls your own age on all sorts of machinery. Last year I was mixing it with big old Brit bikes, weird looking trailbikes and all manner of small and big bore motocrossers. Now how good is that?

Top it off with a great view from the grandstand, nice showers, great food, miles of room to camp, covered pits if you're quick, and well, it doesn't get much better.

This is THE event for HEAVEN as far as I'm concerned (altho, I will admit that is helped along by the fact it's close enough for me to get to, there's not many jumps, and it's a grasstrack!)

Anyone who's anywhere near enough, come along and be part of it. I wanna see full grids on the startline!

Just looking at the HEAVEN site (http://www.heaven-vmx.com) and can't see an entry form for this meeting. I assume there is one coming, cos the standard entry wouldn't cover saturday's age races etc?

When one's available let me know and I'll add it into the calendar at http://ausvmx.ning.com/events/heaven-vmx-round-8

For what it's worth, in my mind it would flow better without that section last year with the 3 or 4 bumps in a row. I reckon a few little ones here and there to add interest but the best thing is if we can keep the flow going. That way it's a tighter race. Just my 2c worth.

Had a few Dirt trackers interested in this event that were a bit worried about the jumps,
I think that although last year they were not very big they were a bit sharp on the old bikes bit like a kicker,
maybe a bit more ramp if possible.
Just a thought

I agree. If you have jumps, give them longer ramps. And don't have two or more in a row. More of a TT style thing.

Keep that weather dry and sunny!!

......but put them close to the corner - jump, land, turn 8). That will make it interesting and challenging for the good riders but safe if a tired rider gets in wrong - just run wide and lose 2 seconds ;) :)

I didn't mind the series of little humps at all. I struggled a lot more with the larger one near the finish line - not only was the extra size an issue, but you tended to hit it a lot faster.

I'm no jump fiend, but they did kinda add something - at the very least, they reigned the dirt track boys back in a bit...  ;D

Yep, she'll be a ripper alright. If there's anyone who's wondering whether or not to enter, all i can say is go for it. You won't regret it. This is one of the funnest weekends you can have. I reckon it'd even be worthwhile if you're normally a dirt tracker!

Like Dan says, there's still time to pre-enter, just ring him on 0429 811 845. Of course, you can enter on the day too, but it makes life MUCH easier if you pre-enter...

Well punters, spoke with the trackmaster "Greg" last night, all looking good for the weekend. Plenty of greenery out there this year so should make for a picturesque weekend. Lot's of room for camping, showers, toilets and power available. Stable your trusty steed in one of the many stables that will be available in the pit's ( just remember that as per last year, it will be a closed pit area ). Track will get bunted on Friday afternoon ( fully bunted both sides ), so if your planning on getting there Friday arvo, come and give us a hand. as they say. many hands make light work.
Sign on will be available on Friday night with scrutineering to start on Saturday morning.
Track is a little bit longer this yearand slightly different , so should be some great racing.
ONLY FOUR MORE SLEEPS!
WHO WILL WIN THIS YEARS CANOWINDRA CUP?
DON'T MISS OUT.
See you there.

This is one of the year's must do events in NSW.

It ticks all the boxes that the VMX fraternity is crying out for.

Age Racing (Yes even old fat blokes get a chance to win)  :D

Capacity Racing (yes even old fat blokes on cheater bikes get a chance to win)  :D :D :D

Natural Course (you don't get more natural than a showground dudes....sorry can I say that here or is Dude to modern???)  :o :o :o

For forks Sake just get out and have a forking ride!

Greg,
Just a refresher on the best way to get there from SYD. Last year I headed towards Blaney from Bathurst then cut across to Canowindra at one of the little towns along the way but can't remember which one (CRAFT Syndrome). Give me a clue??

Nob & Kel,
I have a set of handlebars if that will help !!!!

come through blaney and on the mandurama, turn right at the canowindra sign, follow that through until you get into town, then turn right go past the bp, past the golf culb (no pit stops) and you wont miss it.....
there are alot of highway patrols and cops on the road too so take it easy,
rd is sealed all the way

Yep... These road directions are confusing....  If coming from Sydney, when you get to the outskirts of Bathurst, just follow the road THAT GOES WEST, through half a dozen or so, traffic lights until you reach the roundabout.  Don't turn right towards Orange unless you would like a longer and arguably more scenic route to Canowindra, drive straight through towards Blayney and then onto Mandurama. Now there are signs in this town to Canowindra but you have to look out for them or you may end up in Corwa..... and if you do end up in Cowra, you could take the..... Forbes road and this is crazy...!!!

LOL  ;D

Thanks Greg arguably the BEST event of the year, Saturday's racing was "AWESOME".
Big thanks to all involved and the Canowindra community for getting behind it.
My win this year is dedicated to Magoo.  As most of you know it was the Canowindra round last year that was Bruce's last race, and he didn't just ride he won the 40-49 Pre85 class, the biggest and hottest class of the day.

Great weekend. Was not aware you had a direct line to the head track waterer ;D

The track was great and funny how challenging a Showground can become with the addition of a truck load of 20L drums ;)

Glad I missed you during Saturdays race when your chain derailed :o must of only been a coat of paint in it :D

Already booked for next year.

Well, that was another brilliant event. The racing Saturday arvo was superb as was the track. Watching the final in the late afternoon sun was what it's all about. Thanks to all who made it possible and the many racers who came along to out on a spectacular show.

My day was less than spectacular! An off in the first, bogged off the line in the second, RM broke in the third. With the Sunday rained out and no racing, unfortunastely I didn't really get to make the most of the on track action. But it sure was good watching. I have some short video clips I'll try to post up later in the week.

Firstly thanks to Greg, the committee and all the helpers for making the 2nd Canowindra Cup such a memorable event. Great equaliser this track. Lets some of the less jump effecient sneek up a bit in the pack. Also good to see some of the locals turning up and joining in with Heaven. Great to see John Green back on his RM370 (up front) after his big off at Bulladelah last year.

Track design was a cracker. Several open sweepers and a good spread of tighter stuff. Still can't master those two speed humps with any sense of grace what so ever...   Water in the plastic drums keep a few more honest this time around. Ask Johnny Zarro, he face planted into one when he stepped off Seano Hardmans YZ250D. Stars and Birdies he reckoned.

The only injury I was aware of was young Reece (#79) who came up from juniors last year. Does anyone have an update on his hip?

Once again thanks

Pete

But is OK bruised hip and mild concussion,
was back on Sunday morning and wanting to ride but dad packed him up and took him home,

Well done Greg another good one! Was having a thorough good time falling off and smacking them water bottles until Reece decided to call it a day. He's still pretty sore, gave the ambo's and the hospital staff some comical relief after sucking one of those green whistles dry!
Both Reece and I would like to thank everyone who rounded up our gear and stranded bikes on Saturday, in particular Noel, Dan, Shane and family. thanks to Dave again, what would we do without our own personal medic! Congrats to Damo for 2 in a row, bring on next year!

Enquiring minds what to know.

What sort of answer is that? WTF...

Riddle me this turtle - what do you do when flipped on to your back? Pretend it wasn't a big thing, thats cool, some birds still burry their head, but what way did the vote go?

Me - two torn tendons in my left forearm (insert poor taste joke here). I can barely lift a single malt to my lips. No solution, no surgurey, no physio, only cure is inactivity - which I am following Dr.s order perfectly.

Dear Mr Rudy,
                    RE : BIG VOTE   Canowindra

Those satanists that be Pre 90 got hammered by 50 something to 9. Subsequently the 7 present anti-christs that voted for a change to the constitution will be impaled by the bike of their choice up to Pre 75 at the AGM at Glenbawn.

Regards

SATAN

 :D @ Ted.

For the sake of the non attendess:

The voting went as Ted said, however there was a lot more support for a change to the constitution than the numbers suggest - basically there was wide-spread concern that the proposed changes would allow the club to be hi-jacked by non-old-bike groups.
Montynut* suggested an alternative wording that seemed a lot more popular but the process of changing the constitution meant that it couldn't be voted on, on the day.

I will not suggest that Montynut's revision would automatically get up, but it definitely had a lot more support than what was actually voted on.

*Montynut has been at pains to make it clear that he doesn't particularly support pre-90 in HEAVEN, so I should point that out here!
His interest is in ensuring that if we make a change, that it doesn't create other issues for the club - essentially: "if we're going to do it, then we should do it right".

Thanks for the update Nathan.

:D @ Ted.

 - basically there was wide-spread concern that the proposed changes would allow the club to be hi-jacked by non-old-bike groups.

For what its worth, I agree, that was my primary concern as well. Routine is a proven path to tread. I am always wary of major change. Like many, sometimes the conception and proposal of change needs to be clear and grow on me before I can accept.

I am torn between two loves. My daily endeavours are about redirecting my life and working toward being able to compete in 75 to 85 heaven events until my light goes out, and two nephews who are keen to taste Pre90. I am their chief mechanic. I have limited hours in a day, and also like most a limited budget that will only go so far. Both will suffer, if I try to split them between two venues, and two clubs.

I have spent all morning working on one of their partners TS185, she is very keen and would be a pleasant boost to the ladies membership and racing classes.

Obviously there would be a need for more innovation, if or when PRE 90 is accepted by Heaven.

Perhaps some clever program scheduling that allows for bundy-ed track diversions that would introduce or isolate more or less suitable track features, depending on earlier or latter bike race classes.

No doubt PRE 90 will happen some where, some day in NSW. No doubt it may be seen or considered by some as an opportunity that should be ceased, to boost the strength and ongoing viability of the existing club. Perhaps an opportunity to gain the interest and energy of our young, while the opportunity still exists.

"if we're going to do it, then we should do it right".

Obviously this club is a haven for some with great organizing skills and intelligence, so maybe, maybe one day. If so,,,, I would like to know that Heaven will always cater for early classes that it was founded on. I for one, would like to see that written in blood first.

Totally seperate from the discussion about the club's future direction and it's constitution:

The club is its members - it will support what its members support.
If ANY class lacks support from the members, then that class will struggle to survive.
The collary is if you want to see a class prosper, then its as simple as participating in that class.

There is no intention from ANYONE to kill off older era classes in HEAVEN. Everyone pushing for Pre-90 has older era bikes too!

@ Nathan

Although Monty`s proposal was a good one it has missed the deadline for the AGM this year and in my understanding for it to take effect it would be at least Nov 2011 until it would be considered at the next AGM

I stand to be corrected

Just to clarify my position for everyone, thankyou Nathan for trying to clearly put my position earlier which was true in all respects. I have not and will not be putting forward any proposal to alter the constitution of Heaven VMX.

As far as I'm concerned all the good bikes where built before 1984 which is when the Montesa identity finally and totally disappeared into the Honda Empire ;D. Some Cota production continued. My interest is twinshocks only.

My motivation for putting forward an alternative to the constitutional change that was under discussion? Well mainly to demonstrate that there may be an alternative to the proposal. Importantly it may achieve the same outcome while allowing the membership to keep better keep control of their clubs direction that is if they decided to make a change. I think that would be a good thing  ;).

Lastly I personally would vote to leave the Constitution as is  ;D.

But this stuff all belongs within the Heaven Club only  :-X
