Title: 125d barrel vs e/f barrel
Post by: mainline on August 20, 2010, 04:24:37 pm
Does anyone know if the 125D barrel will bolt onto the 125E/F bottom end, and if so what the porting differences are? Cheers

D & E are pretty close to each other and probably wouldn't be any drama but there are a few changes between the E & F though and interchangability is doubtful.

I know the E/F barrels interchange, the porting is milder on the E though and the exhaust mounts differently. If you reckon the D/E interchange I should be right to fit the d barrel to the f. Any idea what the porting characteristics are like on the D model?

E is better.

D is peakier without any positive trade-off, and the big single intake port wears rings out quicker.
I'm told that the F barrel is super-peaky, but at least makes a stack of top end power to ease the pain. F barrel needs F pipe due to the different spigot on the exhaust port.

E with E pipe = Win.
D with E pipe = good.
D with D pipe = pretty good.
F with F pipe = fail unless you're really good.
Dunno about E barrel with D pipe, but it seems pointless.

don't suppose you've got a spare E barrel lying around do you?

They are all interchangable but I agree the E is by far the best all rounder. as for the pipes, they are all different as well. I am using an E motor in an F frame with the F pipe using silastic to seal against the flange. There are many differences but lots of interchangable bits and I hate typing. Give me a ring if you want more info. 0427 334186

Evilbay has barrels from time to time but if you are desperate I reckon I have a spare or two

not too bad a price I suppose? The postage is the killer though (that and the exchange rate)

My 250 quote was $570 plus postage.  That would be plus piston etc too.

well, this guy says it's on 2nd oversize,
but he's throwing in a 3rd oversize piston kit in the deal.
so after you've added the cost of postage to your doorstep,
you've either got to source a 2nd oversize piston kit if the bore is ok, $$$
or,
bore the barrel out to the 3rd oversize, $$$.
and if your happy with all that then whats the problem.

Get him do do a revised quote on the postage. I reckon it will fit in a preapid up to 20lb box for $45 USD

Sean, All of the YZ125 up to and including the 125G have the same rod.
Rod from a DT125/175 (up until the safety seat model), AT1/CT1 also work perfectly.
